Battery capacity seemingly decreased after only one month usage

2020-09-13, 9:37 AM

Hi!

I think the battery capacity of my Yoga S740-15IRH  (6 hours at full charge) has decreased, as Lenovo claims the device can last for almost 14 hours with a full charge.

I have gamed for about for about an hour every day for the last 2-3 weeks; could it be the case that the battery has been damaged because of the games played are graphically demanding? I have an Nvidia GTX 1650 card and and an I5-9300H processor.

Can I have the battery replaced through my warranty, and how can I prevent the battery from being damaged in the future whilst still being able to enjoy some gaming?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

PC makers' battery capacity ratings are usually based on "best case" scenarios, e.g. dim display, light usage, etc. Intensive gaming drains the battery at a far greater rate than this. So it's possible that there's nothing wrong with your battery.

It would be helpful if you could post the Battery Details as reported by Lenovo Vantage. In particular the cycle count, design capacity and full charge capacity.

Thanks for your reply. I understand what you're saying, except the battery seems to be draining fast even with 'light use' such as web browsing. It fluctuates though; one minute it says only 3 hours remaining at 75% battery, and the next it says 6 hours remaining. My battery details as requested:

-Cycle count: 55

-Design capacity: 69.12 Wh

-Full charge capacity: 71.17 Wh

Hope this helps. What do you think?

That looks quite normal for a relatively new system. It certainly doesn't suggest that there's anything defective in the battery.

You could try dimming the screen as much as you can live with. The backlight is one of the main drains on the battery. That should make some improvement but it's not likely to get you the full advertised rating. (FWIW I've never seen a notebook whose battery lasts as long as the advertising suggests it will.)
