Battery problem in Legion Y730 15Inch

2020-12-05, 10:52 AM

Hello everyone, my lenovo legion y730 15 inch model does not give the battery life as expected by me. It hardly gives me 1.5 hrs of battery backup even if I'm not doing any gaming (just surfing internet). Please help me guys, I'm tensed about it.

Re:Battery problem in Legion Y730 15Inch

I have a Legion Y740 17Inch and I can't even get 1hour out of the battery.

According to the Windows battery report, it's got a capacity of 69,000mWh vs the design capacity of 76460 so the drop in capacity doesn't explain the poor battery life.

According to the resource monitor, the CPU clock varies from about 170-180%. It never seems to drop any lower, even after restarting with nothing running. I'd suspect this is the reason the battery life is so poor. NT Kernel and System seems to be running about 8% average CPU.

In Lenovo Vantage, the thermal mode is set to "Balanced"; if I set it to "Quiet" then the clock speed drops well below 100% but performance is poor.

Anyone know of anything I can do to work out what's causing the excessive CPU boost?

I've had my Legion for about 16 months. I've been extremely pleased with it from day 1.

However, I agree - the battery life is EXTREMELY short. I get 1-2 hours on battery IF I'm careful to turn off everything and put Windows into an eco mode. I'm only a speed demon when the device is plugged in. No one can say that there is excessive CPU, GPU, or disk activity while this is running on battery - not for 16 months.

This is the ONLY thing that I don't like about this laptop, and it is a daily pain.

I would really appreciate tips for changes to BIOS or otherwise that will test and improve the battery life.

I found a link in this forum to a blog that describes using the POWERCFG utility to generate an energy report and a battery report.

https://fossbytes.com/powercfg-check-battery-capacity-battery-health-report-windows-using-cmd/

The battery report confirms that the average operating time on battery has a design capacity of about 2.3 hours, and my actual experience since the OS installation 16 months ago has been less than 2 hours. Compared to other laptops I've had with 4-6 hours of battery life, this is really depressing. IF I buy another Lenovo, and I really want to, this will be a top consideration.

I hope this helps others here.
