Broken plastic tongue in Blue USB port - Lenovo Yoga 2 13

2015-05-23, 7:07 AM

The blue plastic tongue in my Yoga 2 USB 3 port has broken off. I've used litteraly hundreds of machine with thousands of USB insertions and removals and this has never happened before. I had only used the port a couple of times.

Has anyone else experienced this and if so, did Lenovo repair it free of charge under warranty. If not how much did they charge?

Thanks

Thanks Andy

I have sent the relevant information to Lenovo repairs in the UK and asked them to look at this.

I'm not really prepeared to waste time sending my machine to Lenovo only to wait 12 days to be told its out of warranty and they want a huge amount of money to fix it.

I'd rather throw myself at the mercy of John Lewis and try and get my money back.

I just got my Lenovo Yoga back from repair by Lenovo (Medion).

In the end the repair was all done under warranty with no hassle at all. Thanks to this forum I found that the broken USB 3 tongue is a common problem recognised by Lenovo.

Medion (part of the Lenovo Group) collected my machine, shipped it to their repair centre in Germany and returned it today, all fixed - no charge.

It appears that they replaced the mother board and completely re-set up the operating system as they detected some other issues. The also re-flashed the BIOS.

Lost all my data and settings on the hard drive, but that is to be expected and not a problem.

Very pleased.

Tony

Tony,

Were you under warranty when this took place?

I'm out of warranty as of 08/2015 and I'm not looking to pay hundreds of dollars for the use of a USB port..

I simply can't justify the cost of >$100 solely for the benefit of higher speed transfers over USB when I have a USB 2.0 on the opposite side of the laptop.

Also, How did you contact Lenovo/Medion?

I'd prefer to email them, so if you have a good email address, that would really help me out.

Thanks in advance!

Jake
