C930 battery wear level?

Hello,

 

my Yoga C930 is about 3 weeks old and I get some strong readings from the HWMONITOR and BATTERYREPORT so I seek for your comments and opinions.

 

HWMONITOR gives me this:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Wear level of 4% after just one month? And full charge capacity almost 2000 mWh less?

Is this normal?

Greetings.

 

To isolate misreading from actual value you can try unindtalling the battery driver from device manager and restart. Try using the laptop disconnected from the charger until battery notification suggest to shutdown emulating battery drain.

 

While turned off, connect the charger for 2-3 hours and notice until the ac led indicator on the side (page27) turns solid white. Turn the machine back on and continue charging until battery percentage goes 95-100% then check it back with HWmonitor and battery report.

 

Update us how it goes.

How deeply, typically, do you run your machine's battery down before plugging in to recharge? Below 15-20%?

I think mostly I plug it around 20%.

 

Even if I was plugging it in too late, isn't the wear level too high for 3 weeks old notebook?

I've seen accerated wear with batteries that are routinely discharged below 10-15% and then recharged fully. Li-ion batteries don't like deep discharge. Here's a website I've looked to for good techincal info on batteries: https://batteryuniversity.com/.

 

In your case, I'd monitor the wear level for a while longer, taking a closer notice of when you plug in. Maybe try plugging in at ~30% remaining battery. If you see continued decline, then I'd recommend contacting Support to discuss possible warranty battery replacement. I believe normal battery warranty is one year.

Houston we have a problem?

 

So, today I did as spidey101 advised couple of days ago.

 

Now, my wear level is at 6% and Full Charge capacity at 56940 mWh... which is 3110 mWh less!

 

Until today, each day wear level was 2-3%, but this discharge today seem to worsen things. Here is what I have now in HW monitor and Battery Report.

 

Can someone please tell me what to do? Should I return this notebook (send for battery replacement) or continue using?

My C930 battery shows an alarming amount of wear after 6 months of use (113 cycles). Total capacity is 48Wh out of 60Wh design capacity. That's down to 80% of the design capacity in just 6 months! I wonder if this amount of wear warants a waranty claim?

This is to update battery firmware and check how it goes for you.

 

The battery warranty does goes for usually a year but if the firmware update did not resolve your concern then you can report this with technical support for further recommendation.

Thanks for the help. The battery firmware updater indicated that I already had the latest firmware, so it didn't update the battery. I've submitted a service request under warranty.
