Re: C940 14" UHD poor battery life

It isn't just the screen.  When I tested it with external monitor without using the UHD screen, it still sucked up 20% an hour.  Does it really last 9 hours in Lenovo's lab ?

Guys, please check if you have all Windows updates installed, especially the feature update 1909. I got 1909 and some driver updates for Realtek and Fortemedia yesterday and something in them made a significant improvement to the battery life. Windows started immediately giving bigger battery estimate numbers. I've already gotten 5 hours of light use (browsing) and I still have 22% left. Windows is estimating I have still 1h 58 mins left.

With the uhd? That's impressive. The other drivers also via Windows Update?

Yes with UHD. All updates came through Windows Update. Fortemedia extension and realtek something. You can check from windows update history if they have already been installed or not. Feature update 1909 had to be separately installed by clicking a link on the windows update page.

It might still be a coincidence but so far the laptop has been cooler, quieter and lasted longer after those updates

I've been looking at the battery report generated from Windows and it also confirms a sudden change in the estimates after the windows/driver updates:

You can get this report youself too by opening command prompt and typing:

powercfg /batteryreport

It generates an html page which you can view.

I turn off the intelligent cooling option and set it to cool and quiet. Its a bit slower but definitely not laggy. Typing on this now I've gotten 4 hours screen on and the battery is still on 56%. I can probably get 8 hours out of this which is exceptional for a UHD screen. Doing emails, web browsing, office, skype, spotify and a bit of youtube. I don't even have Win 1909 yet so when I get that it might even be better...

I've been using the fully specced c940 with the UHD screen for a week and a half and I really love the computer. Not having those fan issues people are complaining about when using the different modes with the FN+Q button and setting it to quiet. Although I did issue a return today on this model as I put a new order in for the same spec but with the FHD screen as I want to have more freedom in the usage without a chord plugged in. I'll be posting my find in the thread here when I get the new mode with the FHD screen.

Re: C940 14" UHD poor battery life

I've tried all the options above as suggested but my UHD C940 is only getting me 4 hours battery life (The battery indicator is always showing me max 4 hours).

I then decide to try the following steps and finally managed to get around 7 - 8 hours and the fan seldom come on at all:

- perform a reset using Recovery -> Reset this PC

- run windows update

- run microsoft store apps update

- removed any unwanted apps

- set Lenovo power smart settings to Cool & Quiet

- lowest brightness level

- display resolution set to 1920 x 1080 with 100% scale

Hope that helps.
