C940 Flickering / Ghosting / Screen Retention

2020-09-11, 0:29 AM

I've had my 940 since Dec and have been quite happy with it.  About 2 weeks ago I started having an issue with the display.  Parts of it would flicker slightly different colors, screen retention with ghosted images of what was previously there would remain for quite some time,- almost as if every window is semi-transparent.  I also get ghosted images of what is elsewhere on the screen.  A brighter band of pixels coming up from the edge of a window, for instance, and follows the window if you move it around the screen.

Everything is fully up to date according to Lenovo Vantage and Windows.  I manually updated the display driver directly from Intel to what is truly the most recent stable version, and that seemed to fix everything for almost a week.  The problem is back and worse than ever.  I've submitted a ticket to Lenovo support.  In the meantime, I've done some searching and see this is far from uncommon, which is very disappointing.  Is this software or hardware?

It seems to be common across many models, for many years.  Is it true that even if they do replace it, it's likely only a matter of time before the problem resurfaces?  How can Lenovo keep selling products like this?  If what I've read is true, I may just have it repaired / replaced under warranty, sell it, and buy something from another manufacturer.

Here's a video clip the shows the issue.  The flickering is the display, not my camera or YouTube compression

I am having the same issue as this second post. I keep everything update all the time as well. I would say the screen flicker started about a week ago for me. Perhaps it has something to do with one of the latest updates.

I started having the same issues this week. Is there a solution out yet? What is the issue?

I am experiencing this exact same issue.  I started noticing it about 3 weeks ago.

Is it acknowledged by Lonovo as a bug? I have exactly the same problem. When C940 cools off the ghosting disappears.

So.. is there any news from Lenovo about this issue? I have got the same problem, as many others. And sincerely it is becoming difficult to use this computer as a business computer. It is not nice when your screen starts flickering and you are presenting in a business meeting. It is not good for Lenovo as well, clearly, because people ask "what kind of computer is that cheap low-end thing?".
