Hi ,

A good day to you :)

I would suggest that we uninstall the sound driver as this will set all sound related settings to default specially the default Mic and speaker to use. Issues like this happens  when  windows updates and includes drivers with it and the drivers included might not be compatible with your device.

1. Right click the windows icon and look for Device Manager, It should be the 3rd on top.

2. Go to the Sound and video game controllers and expand it to select realtek and/or Intel.Realtek driver.jpgAudio driver

3. Uninstall the Realtek and Intel if you have both, then delete the driver by putting a check on the next window that will pop out.delete driver.png

Now we can prevent this from happening by stopping the automatic driver updates.

1. Open your file explorer and right click where it says This PC and choose Properties.

2. Select Advance System Settings.

3. Select hardware.

4. Click device Installation Settings and select no, Then restart the device

This should get you right back on track and i hope this help.

Hi ,

Dont worry as long it's not a hardware problem it will be reinstalled automatically when you restart the computer.

Uninstall the Realtek and the Intel Smart Sound Technology as its the Intel that messes up the Realtek as shown below, were removing Realtek because it's already having issues and we need a fresh copy installed.

SST.jfif

You can check this by doing this steps and uninstall it if its there.

1. Press the Windows Key  + X and then select Device Manager from the menu.

2. Press View and then select Devices by connection.

view by Connection.jfif

4; Expand ACPI x64-based PC.
-> Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System
-> PCI Express Root Complex
-> Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology (Intel(R) SST) Audio Controller
-> Click Intel (R) Smart Sound Technology (Intel(R) SST)… with the right mouse button and select Uninstall

5.Select Delete the driver software for this device and press OK

delete driver.jfif

For us to stop this from happening we need to stop Windows from automatically updating the drivers.

1. Open your file explorer and right click where it says This PC and choose Properties.

2. Select Advance System Settings.

3. Select hardware.

4. Click device Installation Settings and select no, Then restart the device

Restart and test.

I tried the above steps, as I seem to have the same issue where the mic array is not picking up any sound anymore. However, they did not help. Still not picking up sound.

I've actually encountered this same issue on my UHD c940. I have noticed the mic starts to not work after unplugging a headset that has a mic, where the internal one would stop working until I restart my laptop as a whole. Sometimes it happens and sometimes not, which is pretty weird it's not all the time.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this didn’t have something to do with optane memory I have 3 c940s and the only one with mic issues has optane. This is the second one with optane and both have had issues. I am returning and getting with out optane. If you cans return I would change the drive and disable the optane
