C940 Severe Pen Jitter

2019-11-06, 0:39 AM

I recently purchased a C940 from Best Buy only to discover the most incredible pen jitter I've ever seen on a digitizer. Is this a normal amount of pen jitter?

Could this be resolved through software or is it likely a hardware fault, and I'll have to return/exchange the unit? Has anyone else experienced similar issues with the AES pen? I have tried the internal pen, a Wacom Bamboo Ink, and a Lenovo Pro Pen. All three experience the jitter to some degree

Hi ,

Welcome to the Community Forum,

We can try to do some steps to resolve the issue and  I suggest that you reinstall the driver and Wacom App as its these 2 factors that affect how the pen works software wise. But before you update the driver and App install all the available updates from Windows first up to ver. 1903 as there are some updates that make conflicts on apps and drivers that's currently installed .

Once your up to date and no pending installs are available then you can proceed with reinstalling the driver and app.

The driver can be downloaded at this link https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/, just enter your serial number and then navigate to the drivers section.

 And then download and install the Wacom app from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/wacom-pen/9p32cf64v70c?activetab=pivotSmiley Surprisedverviewtab#.

If it still doesn't work, Since it's still new you can check the store's policy to have it exchanged.

I hope this helps and tell us how it goes.

Jeremy

@Jeremy_lenovo @Qyygle

My C940 14 (4k screen) is showing what I would classify as unacceptable jitter, that manifests both as the usual wavy diagonals but also as a finer, higher frequency line-tremor (see capture). I'm using the integrated stylus.

Any carefull drawing that I try comes out as shaky mess, and it's definetelly not my hands.

I'm currently talking to Lenovo tech support for my country to see what can be done (Repair? Replacement? Coud it be the stylus or the scrren/digitzer?), but if this turns out to be a "feature", it's an unnaceptable flaw in what is otherwise an amazing device - and an expensive one at that.

Hi, I've the same problem but on FHD screen. I tried formatting, installing new wacom drivers but the problem persists. I even bought Lenovo Pen Pro.
I also notice a lot of inaccuracy in writing, especially with some numbers that have curves like 2 or 3.
Did you solve the problem somehow?

I returned my original device and swapped it for another at best buy. The original jitter I had was definately a hardware issue. Ricarva's issue looks closer to a possible touch interference issue, or possibly a stylus tip seating problem. Sometimes removing the tip and replacing it helps for mine. Also, you might want to try writing with a glove or something blocking your palm from touching the screen.

Palm rejection is suppose to be alright on wacom AES, but I always had better results on n-trig/Microsoft pen protocol digitizers.

One thing I would recommend is to Not use the lenovo pro pen. That pen has support for tilt, which the C940 does support, but this is enabled through the use of another digitizer sensor in the pen. Imagine that a normal pen has a sensor at the tip of the pen, where the display picks up to determine where to place the cursor input. For the tilt sensing, the pro pen has an additional sensor further up the pen, which the display also senses, to interpolate a 'tilt'. Not sure if this is a driver issue, or just a limit of this method, but every tile enabled pen I tried has had much worse jitter. I think the additional sensor for tilt really impacts normal accuracy.

Does your integrated pen show the same issues with numbers, etc?

Thank you for your useful answer. I noticed that if the palm of the hand does not touch the display directly, the accuracy of the writing slightly improves.
Regarding the Lenovo Pen Pro, it has more jitter on diagonal lines than the built-in pen, while as for the precision on numbers or some letters, nothing changes between the two pens.
Sometimes the problem is more obvious, sometimes less...diagonal lines are more or less like those in the image posted by recarva.
Is there a pen in particular that you would recommend?

@Qyygle

For what it's worth, local Lenovo tech support has decided to swap out my whole LCD module plus the internal connection cables. While I'm not thrilled to have surgery done on a brand new machine, I'm curious to see what - if any - impact this will have on the issue at hand.

I'll also have to rethink my Pen Pro purchase given the warnings above.

What do you think guys? Is this a hardware defect or I must consider it as 'normal' ?
