C940 problems with Windows 2004 update

2020-06-28, 16:29 PM

So I've had to back out Windows 2004 update back to 1909 on my Lenovo C940

Lots of problems, EDGE locking up, Blue Screen reboots, whole system lockup and having to force reboot to be able to do anything and reboot.

after lockup.

So I'm now concerned that not having latest updates leaves a security threat vector.

But the system was pretty unusable with the 2004 update installed.

Supportive comments and ideas appreciated.

Hi there Infostocksy

Welcome to the Community Update.

Windows themselves have warned people not to perform the update until they are able to provide a cumulative update that fixes the plethora of problems that is being caused by Ver. 2004.

I do not believe there is anything to worry about when it comes to security threats. People who use Win 10 for private usage, and with a decent knowledge of the workings of the internet and such, even less so. It would've been a different case if Windows came out and said that this security update is absolutely critical, as they have done in the past when realizing they have had major security problems.

All in all, there should be nothing to worry about. Stick with 1909 until Win 10 comes out with a cumulative update for the 2004.

Keep in mind that I do believe Microsoft will only support one of the Windows 10 versions for about a year and a half. After that, you will no longer be able to get security updates. So do not wait too long.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Voithos
