It should be noted that I tried the fix in an elevated command prompt window, and even verified the existence of the new key in the registry.

My CPU coil whine is gone now too.  I can hear the fans of course if I put my ear up to it, but I'm used to HP laptops for many years, so this is nothing.  I'll report back with how I think it's affecting the battery.

I tried the fix once more, and it's true: the coil whine is diminished (especially the constant, high frequency tone).

However, putting my ear to the upper left section of the keyboard (sometimes I can hear this from a foot or two away), I still hear that squealing/ticking "hard disk writing" sound.  It's most apparent during times of heavy processing... for instance, I just told Java to update and I hear the sound once more.

Is it possible that the noise is coming from the SSD (or something related)?

Does anyone else still experience this?

I can still sometimes hear this "mushy" almost type of CPU-related sound, but it's not noticable really, especially if there's any noise going on at all.

That high frequency coil whine that this got rid of though.  That was really annoying and could be heard over other sounds sometimes even and bothered me. I'm actually still "hearing" it now whenever I wake up the Yoga because my brain is so used to hearing it or something so now I'm imagining it subconciously.

So far it does seem like the battery is draining a bit faster.  Maybe 10% faster?  I'd have to do an actual test of exact conditions for each situation before I could say for sure though.  I'm thinking it'll make a full charge only last like 4.5 hours instead of 5.5 or whatever it is.

This morning I turned on my Yoga from sleep and heard the coilw hine for just a split second until the registry addition kicked in and stopped it.  It's been off battery now all day with on and off use and I'm not seeing a difference in battery drainage.  I'm sure it's there, but I'm not seeing anything that would make me second guess this at all.  I'll know more tomorrow when I'm at school with it fo a 12 hour day, something I've done with it before and will be able to more easily see a difference, if any.

It's so nice not to have that **bleep** noise going on.

I'm still not noticing a big difference in battery life, possibly none at all.  Like I think I posted earlier, I'm sure it's there, but I'm not seeing any obvious indicators of it or that the computer behaves or heats up any differently.  So awesome not to have that high frequency noise anymore.

Everybody here is talking about adding some registry key but not the one from Hotfix link. ??? Which one then? Nothing in the thread beside that one ?

Go to the linked page, add the registry key in the workaround section, ignore the rest of the article including the download.  If you're adding the key by running the command on the page, make sure you do it from an admin command prompt.
