External hard drive cannot be seen in file manager

2020-09-18, 18:07 PM

I have a LENOVO YOGA 500 and a Seagate Back up plus Portable Drive 2 TB

I rarely use this eternal drive and have not used it on this machine before

Windows file explorer cannot see the drive but it is seen in device manager and disc management

the Seagate technical rep  looked at my drive and has told me that there is nothing wrong with it I have a driver issue, it has been rolled back and I need this fixed.

I do not know how to fix this can anyone help?

I need to take files off to update windows as it keeps failing and undoing the latest update. I believe because there is not enough space available for process the update.

Welcome to the Community

I'm assuming there's no data on the drive you really need. If so, connect it to a different computer and transfer that.

Have you tried formatting it? Looking at the picture, it doesn't have a drive letter. That tells me it either needs a format or drive letter assignment, both of which you can do by right clicking on the volume's name in Disk Management (Disc 1 Partition 2).

The drive wasn't previously used in a Mac or Linux environment, was it? Maybe the other computer you used it in was UEFI-capable?  Whatever's on it, that 200MB EFI partition likely sets up a file system, GUID table or something your Yoga isn't configured to work with. Disk Management sees it, but Windows can't work with it.

Yes, assuming you don't need any data that might be on it, try deleting disc 1 partition 2 and see if Windows will catch that and allow a drive letter assignment or formatting of the whole thing.
