My Yoga 2 13 (Mod 20344) has a pre-installed HDD and runs Win 8.1. I plan to install Win 7 on this machine from a bootable usb stick, and to avoid conflicts/complications with dual booting etc I have installed a Samsung 850 EVO MZ-N5E250 in the free SSD slot. I have disconnected the HDD, but I have left it in place. I have entered BIOS and disabled 'secure boot' and turned off UEFI. The information tab of the BIOS shows that the SSD is recognised.
When I start up I get the message that the "Default Boot Device is Missing or Boot Failed" message. I go into BOOT MANAGER and I have no options available. I also need to change SATA to AHCI, but this is nowhere to be seen (presumably it would be available in the BOOT MANAGER).
Any guidance would be appreciated.

May be I should just reconnect the HDD and use Win8.1 with Classic Shell and/or similar derivatives. It will probably be easier in the long run! I'll at least gain extra storage, with the potential for transferring the OS to the SSD.
