I have a Yoga 3 11 here, and I have been wondering if the power output of the USB ports are different?
I can power an external 2,5" HDD 5200 rpm without problems with left side's ports ( USB 3.0 and the combined USB 2.0 / DC in port ). However the right side USB 2.0 port causes my drive to spin up loop (it crashes before reaching full speed).
Is the right side only 500 mA ? This is not documented anywhere...

USB ports used in the Yoga 3 11 are universal standards so each USB version power delivery are different.
Left side have USB 3.0 power delivery moves up to 900mA (0.9A).
On the right side, USB 2.0 delivers up to 500mA (0.5A)
It is most likely that the external drive would demand more power from USB 3.0 port than what USB 2.0 can provide. Same goes with other higher demanding usb devices.
Hope this helps answer your query.

But I must say, even though the USB 2.0 Standard is 500mA, the left side combined port USB 2.0/DC runs the drive without problems, so maybe it is rated as high as the USB 3.0 port.
