Help w/ screwdriver for upgrading SSD

2013-01-24, 3:47 AM

I have opened my lenovo yoga to upgrade the ssd but don't have a phillips screwdriver small enough for the screws holdingthe metal piece down. I went to radioshack and the smallest they had was 00, which was too big. Ive looked on amazon but am not sure which size I need. It looks like it's measured in mm. Any help? Thanks.

hi gerbila,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

According to page 41 of the hardware maintenance manual, the type of screw on the SSD is a:

You will need a screwdriver like this or similar to remove it.

Hope this helps.

If I remember correctly, I did not use a Phillips head screwdriver for any of the tear down.  I used a torx driver, it is a 4 or 5 I think.  Unfortunately I didn't have one that small but Radio Shack had a cheap cell phone tool kit that had the right size and some useful plastic pry tools.  Below is the maintenance manual with tear down pics.

Mine are definitely Phillips head, as shown in this picture: Picture

The manual is not helpful in finding the screwdriver. It doesn't even describe the type of screw head on the screws. While I appreciate the link to the Stanley tools, the smallest Phillips head size in that set is 00, which is still too big.

So I go all over town today looking for a place that has a screwdriver small enough to fit the screw in the yoga. Apparently this screw is so small it requires a Phillips #0000 screwdriver! That's right, even a #000 is too big (yes, I already tried). From my searches online a 0000 screwdriver is extremely difficult to find. My question is, how are you people replacing the SSD. I can't imagine too many people have such a small screwdriver.
