How do you do a factory reset on a Yoga 2 Pro?

I just got it about 2 weeks ago and it's all boogered up.  I think I accidentially installed some malware and it now there's stuff I just can't get off it.  I've been running windows 7 for years and never had malware issues like I'm running into on 8....

Since there's no DVD drive and it didn't come with a system restore thumb drive like my mac air did, how do you do a full factory reset?

Appreciate any help.

  1. Turn off your computer
  2. Next to the power button (on the right hand side), there is a little, small button. Press this button. This button is called the OKR (one key recovery) button.
  3. On boot, you will be prompted with about 4 option. Select the option that says recovery (or one key recovery).
  4. Follow the on-screen prompts.

Awesome. Thanks. That little novo button is tiny! Almost fully restored.

Hence why I used "little" and "small" to describe it Smiley Wink lol.

Nice to hear the instructions were clear enough. I was going from memory Smiley Tongue.

Re: How do you do a factory reset on a Yoga 2 Pro?

Yep, worked like a champ.

Interesting about the restore...  Some things were wiped, others came back. Such as wallpapers and some other personalized settings.

I did re run windows updates and those didn't carry over so I did everything that was available.

I'm not sure how microsoft/lenovo decided what would carry over and what would disappear.  Either way, it worked very well and I've got the machine all cleared up now.

Appreciate all the help!

Re: How do you do a factory reset on a Yoga 2 Pro?

The wallpaper came back because your Windows' Theme is tied to your OneDrive Microsoft Account. I take it that you used the same M$ account after you restored.

In short, M$ tries to keep a copy of {SOME} settings so that what you do on one computer, gets updated across all your devices (like a change in wallpaper).

Thanks.  It worked.  And afterwards I could even install Win10.  It just kept crushing till now.

Charles, when you push the button for a few seconds, the keyboard should light up, and then you should get a non-graphical menu screen. Is your keyboard lighting up?
Also, it's a bit tricky for some fingers to actually push the button. In my case, I sometimes use a pen.
