Is there a way to get to the bios or boot from a thumb drive? I dont want to mess with my install but I would like to boot linux on a external drive. Samsung makes some large thumb drives that have a 300mbs read and 50mbs write that would be great for runing linux on my C630 from external storage.

Power off - Power on then rapidly hit fn and F2 repeatedly. That will get you to bios.
Based on the ping pong ball act I got bouncing around support I am going to say you can't reformat this via usb or external cd/dvd.
I spent hours with MS and Lenovo support and none could make a reformat work.
They were trying to have me set bios options that don't exist.
Not sure what happens if you hose a hard drive, maybe a replacement device if you can't reformat.
This is frustrating to say the least.
The last support tech suggested that I take my day old replacement to a local pc tech.
We are a staff of 5 high level support engineers. What a joke.
Lenovo tier 2 support emailed me the following:
They will need to register to use this site but as long as the recovery media is available for their machine, they can download and build the key.
They will also need to download and install the Recovery Media Creator utility.
I have downloaded and created. I will post back after I try the recovery. There is still hope.
