Lenovo Pen Settings App not starting

2019-03-08, 11:45 AM

I tried to find an answer and whatever I tried, I can't get the Pen app to start. The pen works but the app where you can change the sensitivity etc doesn't work.

The wacom service is running, I de-installed the apps, reinstalled the apps, both the Lenovo as the Wacom version but if I start one of them it just doesn't seem to do anything. No error, no flash of a program, nothing.

I'm pretty handy with computers but a bit out of clues as I don't get why the app doesn't start since my pen works, is connected etc. Of course I downloaded latest drivers for the laptop but still no luck.

Hope someone has some other things I can try so I can access the pens sensitivity etc settings.

Re: Lenovo Pen Settings App not starting

2019-03-13, 15:28 PM

Yesterday I had an emails back and forward with Lenovo support. First suggestion was to reinstall Windows. Not the suggestion I think is really something to solve one app which ain't working.

But I looked in the event log from Windows and send the output to support. I got this link back which has a lot of things about the error in the Event Log. It seems to have something to do with the user profile. But even after creating another user I still couldn't start the Pen Setting app.

If you guys want to take a look, got this link back from support: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-performance/programs-crash-error-fault-module-kernelbasedll/9fe5d2e7-79d0-42c1-b8dc-51ed8d70f749?auth=1

I also tried sfc /scannow to check if all Windows 10 files were ok but that also gave no solution.

I will try some more but since I did a fresh install of all and all other stuff is working great I still think it has something to do with the Pen App. Still odd since the Wacom version of the app does exactly the same.

So I'm out of clues (still) but if I found something which does help I'll post it here.

I also have exactly the problem you describe.

However, I should report that the Lenovo Pen Setting App originally worked in 2018. It seems to have stopped working after an automatic App update from the Microsoft Store.

Yesterday I manually downloaded and installed the Wacom driver from this Wacom page and I could finally start the Wacom Pen App (which looks the same as the Lenovo Pen Setting App, except for the logo) and configure the pen. However today the App is again not starting anymore.

Looking at the Event Viewer, this seems like a bug in the Wacom setting app, making a wrong call to the KERNELBASE.dll. It must be fixed by Wacom

Faulting application name: ISD_Settings.exe, version: 7.6.36.0, time stamp: 0x5c8020e3
Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll, version: 10.0.17763.348, time stamp: 0xd620e319
Exception code: 0xe0434352

@TiborHr

That's exactly the same thing the other guy posted above you. But he said it only worked once.
Just reset the laptop and the pen app still works. That's nice! So far so good :) Thanks!

@schitto

I think you should install the driver you mentioned last, at least. I tried here and even after restart it works. My rough guess is that installing the pen app will overwrite a file that the FeelDriver installs.
