Lenovo Refurbished Yoga 500 Slow Boot Times

I have recently purchased a Yogo 500 which has been refurbished by Lenovo.

Everything seems fine once it's up and running but it seems to take an age to boot up past the Lenovo logo. I end up with a black screen and my curser shows a blue circle. This can last a good 3 or 4 minutes.

I have the i5 version with 8gb RAM and a 8gb SSD alonside a regular HDD.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to resolved this? I do have a spare SSD I could pop in but I'm not exactly sure how I go about doing that... or if it would help?

Many thanks

Re: Lenovo Refurbished Yoga 500 Slow Boot Times

Hi jimmisavage ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

On slow booting system , testing how it behaves on safe mode can help check if add on programs are causing this along with running diagnostics.  If no hardware issue detected on the test , then you may proceed checking with windows update if there are any process running in the background like installation and update.

Using another account such as local administrator  instead of a microsoft account isolates any Microsoft features and software usually synched with Microsoft Store applications can help.

Clean boot can make boot up faster by disabling non essential programs everytime you restart. Some would even disable hibernate to speed it up and likewise increase data space specially if you do not really need to use such feature.

Hope this helps answer your query.

Update us how things go.

Regards

Re: Lenovo Refurbished Yoga 500 Slow Boot Times

Thanks for the quick reply!
I have followed your advice (although I must admin I don't really know what I'm doing) and it doesn't seem to have made a difference with any of those options. It still takes 3-4 minutes to load up each time.

It seems to be at the Lenovo screen and straight after that are the slow parts. As soon as I'm ableto log in everything seems sharp.

Re: Lenovo Refurbished Yoga 500 Slow Boot Times

Hi jimmisavage ,

Greetings.

Try to run diagnostics to check for hardware issue .

You may try disabling fast boot and turning off Windows feature on Windows Subsystem for Linux (Beta) if available .

Let's see how it goes.

Regards

**edit remarks : include LSC link for diagnostics **

Re: Lenovo Refurbished Yoga 500 Slow Boot Times

There is no info to provide a basis for determining even if there is a problem.

It could be just plain busy doing something during that time. You need to have an experienced Tech look at it or the store you bought it from may have someone. I would not start opening up and swapping HD since you'd have to know how to rebuild the replacement drive. It may affect your warranty depending on what you do.

It Depends on a lot.

Re: Lenovo Refurbished Yoga 500 Slow Boot Times

Hi,

I was looking for people with the same problem and stumbled upon this thread.

The short version: Same problem with my Lenovo 500 Yoga. **bleep** slow (minutes...) when booting or likewise coming back from hibernation. Frustrating.

Longer version: I dont think that this issue has anything to do with hardware or bulky programs that were uploaded at some time after purchasing. My Lenovo was so slow from the very beginning (after upgrade from Win8, as far as I remember). Only "workaround": Kill all hibernation modes. But this is not a good trick, as I need my Laptop often without cable and the battery capacity isn't all to great anyway.

It must have something todo with the boot sequence and maybe the way it starts Windows 10 (is there an update for that?). But the most annoying issue is simply: You press the start button on the side of the Yoga 500 and nothing happens...for a long time...you start thinking you didn't press the start-button properly...then after an eternity the "Lenovo-Logo" appears on the black screen...then it disappears again...time goes by...then the windows screen (pretty picture)... time goes by...then finally login. After that everything is fine and quick. But before that... We are really talking about minutes!

I've seen this kind of question elsewhere (in the German community) unanswered, so I have the bad feeling it is not fixable. But if it is, please let us know. Because reinstalling Windows 10 is really not an option for hard working people with limited computer knowledge. And then most probably the problem remains...

Thanks in advance for helping and if I missed the "Golden Thread" with the solution to this, please let me know.

Kind regards,

Stampfbauer

Re: Lenovo Refurbished Yoga 500 Slow Boot Times

Hi,

This is exactly the issue I have and it's still ongoing. I can't actually put my laptop into sleep or hibination because it takes even longer to wake up that it would to turn on from a fresh start!

I'm not sure if this is related but I also have a major issue with general slowness when I run the laptop on the battery. It's just about unusable!

I have heard that changing the hard drive can fix the issue but that's really not something I want to get into at this point in time!
