Lenovo X1 Yoga Multiple Generation TouchScreen Issues

2021-06-02, 15:04 PM

Hello,

after upgrade from older Windows 10 builds to 20H2 or 21H1 build (even fresh install) the touch screen in "modern apps" like Snip & Sketch does not work after long word writing.

Firstly nothing happend; no line is visible. Suddenly a line appeared but the graphic drivers keeps crashing repeatedly. (Screen goes blank, comes back after 10 secs and then everything becomes small and the driver crashes again). This situation repeats every time I try to write something.

I tried all new drivers, firmware, BIOS. Fresh install Windows. But still happening. This happens on all Lenovo X1 Yoga Gen 2, Gen 3 and Gen 5 with W10 20H2 and 21H1. It works good on the older versions of Windows.

I attached event log. In the event_app you can see restart of graphic card driver.

Do you also experienced this? Any ideas?

Thank you,

Jakub

Re:Lenovo X1 Yoga Multiple Generation TouchScreen Issues

I have started case with Microsoft. And problem was a Window Manager\Window Manager Group missing in the Increase Scheduling Priority setting:

Local Group Policy Editor > Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > User Rights  Assignment > Increase Scheduling Priority.
Under Local Security Settings tab, we need to have Administrators and Window Manager\Window Manager Group.

Hope it will help for the others who might experience that.

BR,

Jakub

Hello jakubmach,

Welcome to Lenovo Community

Kindly go to BIOS, load the default settings then save and exit.
Next step is to uninstall the display driver, completely remove it from the system by ticking the check box that says delete driver.
Go to the support site, download and install a fresh copy of the driver.
Restart the machine and observe

Hello,

thank you for reply. I have done that before and without change. Like I said I tried all new drivers from web support for each model.

Please describe exactly how to reproduce this.

X1Y3 Win21H1 here. Did not notice any bugs so far.

Did you also update the Touchscreen firmware?

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds503568-touch-screen-firmware-update-tool-for-windows-10-64-bit-thinkpad-x1-yoga-type-20ld-20le-20lf-20lg

Kindly list your drivers for the X1Y3 as I can only test this machine atm.

Hello,

I can not attach video of it. But here is link to it: https://1drv.ms/v/s!ArVVdRvYXbksiA8crXHPPF2b7ZBw?e=RwLWoR

Firstly nothing happend; no line is visible. Suddenly a line appeared but the graphic drivers keeps crashing repeatedly. (Screen goes blank, comes back and the driver crashes again). This situation repeats every time I try to write something.

You can do it with pen or mouse. The issue is the same.

I have updated all of drivers using Lenovo Service Bridge.

BR,

Jakub

Hello jakubmach,

I would encourage having a backup image of the last working build before jumping to any new release just in case not all patches are smoothened by the software developer.

Original image may also be available for you here:

Hope this helps
