Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro - 8GB RAM Configuration

2013-12-18, 22:03 PM

Hi,

I am looking to buy the Yoga 2 Pro model, but all the configurations listed on Lenovo site are with 4GB RAM.

I saw a listing on BestBuy, but it is no longer in stock.

Is the 8GB model no longer being manufactured or will it be available for purchase sometime in future?

Supposedly it's just a supply issue.  Since the memory is soldered to the motherboard they cannot change the configuration once the board is stuffed.  I think demand outpaced supply for the 8 GB model and they took them off the website until they get more motherboards built with 8 GB.  Best Buy has been in and out of stock regularly since they released the Y2P.  Keeping checking the BB site; one day they are out of stock and the next day they are available.

People are forgetting Christmas is just a week away. The BestBuy price on the i7 8 gig is insanely low. Just wait till after Christmas.

FWIW, the  lenovo customer service rep just encouraged me to get the 4GB and then upgrade to 8GB in late January when they are expecting the 8GB to be in stock again.  They told me to call customer service and they would walk me through the steps to manually upgrade the ram.   She also told me it wouldn't void my warranty. I don't want that hassle but I thought I'd share it here.

Wow, talk about a sleazy rep... Memory on Y2P is soldered onto the motherboard and NOT upgradable in any way.
