Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro SSD failure: BIOS does not detect drive

Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro S/N *****

i7, 8GB, 256GB SSD

Windows 10

Similar to another poster here, I experienced a BSOD, then on restart no drive was detected. Checked the connection and confirmed that the drive was firmly seated. A few threads online indicated that switching BIOS settings from UEFI to Legacy Support had worked for some people, however this was not the case in my situation.

After figuring out the ssd part number using this tool:

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/ibasepartslookup

I checked prices and found that an exact replacement was a bit on the pricey side for an mSATA drive. I found a faster unit for almost half the price through Crucial:

https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-MX200-250GB-mSATA-Internal/dp/B00RQA6LFA

Upon receiving the replacement drive I referred to these instructions for replacing the unit:

Note that the fasteners on the bottom of the laptop are not Phillips #00 as indicated in that article, but are in fact Torx T5. If you're a normal person and don't have a bit that size, a good high quality option is Wiha:

Get yourself a bootable USB (search Microsoft support), and you'll be on your way. Hope this will be helpful to someone else who runs into the same issue.

Cheers!

Mod's Edit: Serial number removed from public view to protect owner from its unwanted use.

Were you able to recover any files off of the failed SSD? I have this exact issue and really would like to recover files.

Honestly I haven't tried, this is my work laptop and I keep everything essential on Dropbox. It's possible that you could pick up a cheap SSD enclosure and try recovery that way, but I wouldn't be too optimistic.
