Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro Touchpad Uninstalled

I've looked around for a solution to my problem and haven't found one, so sorry if this is a repeat post.  I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro, running Windows10.  I am still under warranty, so sending it in is an option, but I'm a student and not having my laptop for an extended period of time would be incredibly inconvenient.  I don't have any other issues with my laptop.

About 5 months ago, the touchpad on my computer just stopped working.  No response to anything.  I downloaded the latest drivers, installed them and restarted, and still nothing.  I did some more research and tried to follow advice, but ran into what I think is the root of the problem.  When I tried to see if my touchpad was enabled in Settings, only my wireless mouse is listed.  I looked further and found that my touchpad doesn't show up in 'Device Manager' under the 'Mice and Other Pointing Devices' subsection.

I'm not particularly techie, but am willing to try anything to regain functionality.  It's an inconvenience to have to either use the touchscreen or carry around my mouse all the time.  Any pointers down the right road towards fixing this (and not having to have it serviced) would be grealy appreciated!  Thanks in advance.

Hi mknoodle,

Welcome to the Forum.

I have checked older posts about the same issues  with your unit and it seems that there is not a clear solution.  Ohers users advided to perform:

1. Open Synaptics Pointing Device, either from the hidden icons menu on bottom right menu bar, or from control panel

2. Select 'Device Settings' Tab

3. Select 'Properites'

4. Under the 'One Finger' Tab you can select the 'Tap' box and switch on the Tap function.

But not sure if you have already tried this.

Maybe  there is a hardware issue with your unit, but to be sure I would suggest you to perform a factory reset. Remember backing up all tha data that you want to save before doing  it.

Please let us know  how it goes.

Regards.

Re: Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro Touchpad Uninstalled

Hello and thanks for your reply.

I was not able to try your first suggestion, since all evidence of the Synaptics Pointing Device has disappeared from my computer, no matter how many times I reinstall the driver.

Just today the same type of thing happened with my Wireless LAN card.  I couldn't connect to internet, and was advised that "Windows did not detect any hardware".  The wireless network adapter didn't show up in device manager.

I decided to do a factory reset, following the instructions from here: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht076024.  I had saved a copy of the recovery partition to a USB drive when I first got the computer, and used that.

The Wireless card gave me a few issues (is still buggy) but is now functioning.  The touchpad never worked, and still doesn't show up under device manager, unless I select "view hidden devices", it comes up with Error Code 24: "This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all of it's drivers installed".  I downloaded the most recent driver, but still no luck.  I have a wireless mouse so I guess I can live without the use of my touchpad - I'm guessing something came loose inside the laptop.  I am quite frustrated, and would greatly appreciate some more guidance (even if just to tell me to send the laptop in).
