Lenovo Yoga 3 14 Keyboard Issues after Windows 10 Creators Update

2017-09-20, 8:42 AM

So I should preface this by saying that I managed to fix the issue, however I thought it would be useful if this was posted so others with the same problem can potentially fix their computer.

So earlier today I updated my computer to the most recent windows 10 release (version 1703). Upon updating I noticed that my keyboard seemed to be having issues. It wasn't completely non-functioning, however it seemed to be having trouble picking up some keystrokes. As far as I could tell these seemed to be random and randomly timed (roughly every 3-4th keystroke was being missed). Updating drivers and using the standard windows troubleshooter picked up nothing. However other forums noted that it could be the BIOS not being completely up to date. I tried this and it worked!

This is the link I used:

http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/tablets/yoga-series/yoga-book/downloads

It should detect the model of laptop you use - just click on "Scan Update" and it will pick up whether you need a BIOS update - just follow the instructions from there. It is crucial though that the correct BIOS for your model is used however. Hope this helps someone!

I just want to say I did fix the issue with the keyboard on my Lenovo Yoga 3 under Windows 1706 by following these steps in another posting.

Try a static discharge for this, it may help to resolve the issue or at least get rid of any built up static on the motherboard.

(If the battery is internal, please just skip the remove/replace battery steps.)
1. Turn the unit off
2. Remove the battery and the Mains adapter
3. Press and hold the front power button for 30 seconds
4. Replace the battery and the Mains adapter
5. Turn the unit on as normal

Thank you very much for this post, the BIOS update solved the issue for me.

This keyboard missing some keystrokes was really driving me crazy!

I have a Yoga 3 14, with bios version BACN99WW, and Windows 10 1709. But the keyboard problem is still there. So the bios update did not fix the problem for me.

@Timco

My Yoga 3 14 is now running on bios version BACN95WW, 30/07/2015, Windows 10.0.16299, and I do confirm the keyboard issue is resolved. I can't say what was the previous Bios version sorry.

Good luck to resolve your issue.

Hi Churros,

Had this problem and your link worked perfectly once I put in my PC details and then scanned for driver updates. The BIOS update appears to be the one that did the trick and its back to unlimited fast typing. Thanks a million!

Regards,

O.K

So i've been struggeling with the keyboard issues since update 1709 on my Lenovo Yoga 3 14 for a few months now.

Tried virtually any possible solution on the internet besides performing an exorcisem...

And now its 100% solved!!!

The battery discharge solution is temporery at best and mostly illogical.

My Firmware was already at the newest version at the time of the initial incident and there was nothing to upgrade.

I have made BIOS modifications but to no avail.

I was just about to give up and rollback to windows 8.1 or just go to some Linux distro until this issue is resolved but then i decided i have nothing left to lose (since my laptop is completely unusable with this issue) and i joined the "Microsoft Insider Preview program".

I configured it to skip to the next unreleased version of windows and downloaded "Windows 10 Build 17127.rs4_release.180318-0047" via windows update (after joining the Insider Preview program).

I am glad to say that after 48 hours of intensive work on my laptop with this version of windows the issue no longer exists.

I hope this will help even 1 person as i have struggeled myself for months for a solution for this issue.

Have fun!

Amichai.
