Lenovo Yoga 3 Freezes when the Wifi adapter is enabled

I have a Lenovo Yoga 3 pro 1370 running Window 10 build 10586.104

This is a fresh install less than one week old. I conducted a fresh install in an effort to solve a problem I have been having for over amonth now.

With the WiFi network adapter enabled I am unable to move the laptop nor move the screen as this causes the entire system to freeze requiring a full reboot. Disabling the card through device manager allows me to move the laptop as normal. This happens irrespective of what applications are open at the time.

The only error message that shows in the event logs is the following:

"The system watchdog timer was triggered."

The WIFI network adapter is a Broadcom 802.11ac.

The currently installed drivers are:

  • bcmihvsrv64.dll v7.35.338.0
  • bcmihvui64.dll v7.35.338.0
  • bcmwl63a.sys v7.35.338.0
  • vxifibus.sys v10.0.10586.9 (th2_release. 151029-1700)

The data provider for the first three files is Broadcom. The last one is supplied by Microsoft. These are the latest released editions available.

All other drivers are reported a up to date.

It is imperative that this issue is resolved as this is my primary development device. If you need any more information please let me know.

Re: Lenovo Yoga 3 Freezes when the Wifi adapter is enabled

Welcome to the Forums Jimbob!

A computer watchdog is a hardware timer used to trigger a system reset if software neglects to regularly service the watchdog. In a watchdog mode, the watchdog timer can be used to protect the system against software failure, such as when a program becomes trapped in an unintended, infinite loop.

I had the exact same freezing problem. It seems to be gone after installing all Windows updates. That required quite a few restarts.

Let us know how you get on.

Regards,

Shashi

Hi there,

Thanks for your reply. I'm actually running with the latest driver files available so Im afraid that won't help.

Kind Regards

Re: Lenovo Yoga 3 Freezes when the Wifi adapter is enabled

If you open up your task manager when wifi is turned on, do you see any processes that are consuming high percentages of CPU?

Last resort would be backing up your files and doing a factory reset to isolate if it's an OS issue.

Re: Lenovo Yoga 3 Freezes when the Wifi adapter is enabled

No High CPU I'm afraid...

Also

"This is a fresh install less than one week old. I conducted a fresh install in an effort to solve a problem I have been having for over a month now."

So it's not the OS. I'm pretty certain now that it's either specific drivers or a hardware issue which would be very annoying since the laptop is only 1/2 years old and the warranty only lasted a year.

Re: Lenovo Yoga 3 Freezes when the Wifi adapter is enabled

Are there power options specific to wifi and battery operation?  Can you set the card to full power and turn off wifi power management?

Have you scanned your system for viruses and malware? Try downloading the latest wifi driver from support site. Also, download something like CCleaner, which is a pretty conservative tool for cleaning up files and the registry. Uninstall the wifi driver, and then run CCleaner to both clean up the file, as well as the registry scanner.

Let us know how you get on.
