Lenovo Yoga 300-11IBR Model 80M1 - SSD upgrade - not detected

Hello everybody,

I have acquired as mentioned in the title the Lenovo Yoga 300-11IBR Model 80M1 notebook for taking notes in class.
It comes with a pre-installed 500 Gb SSHD. Because of the heat generated by the SSHD inside a no-fan laptop and the always on the move nature of classes I would preffer a more shock-resistant solution like an SSD. I tried changing it with an OCZ Vertex450 128Gb SSD I had in my desktop pc but it was not detected by the system.

I have "used google" the last past days but no concrete answer was found. Not really the most popular laptop I guess, or still too new...
Can you more tech-savy guys please help me to understand what I am doing wrong and if it is possible to install an SSD in my notebook?

Thanks
Smiley Happy

Re: Lenovo Yoga 300-11IBR Model 80M1 - SSD upgrade - not detected

HI A1rR0,

Great Post. I too was astonished by how hot my laptop would get using the SSHD. When I ordered my ThinkPadE460 the ones with the SSD were not available, must have been sold out as they were available a week previously so I went with the next best option being the SSHD so I took the existing SSD I had in my old laptop I had got a year earlier and popped it into the Lenovo.

It didn’t work, the system wasn’t reading it, but it was being detected in the BIOS so I knew the hardware was present and being detected by the system it just didn’t boot.

I looked up another forum and found the lenovos have a protection to prevent foreign OS’s from drives being booted up and I had to disable this before it would read the new drive.

You can do this in the BIOS its called secure boot and I had to disable it, then it was fine. The system is so much faster, hardly any noise and the temperature never moves. IM astonished at the system improvements and think Lenovo should abandon mechanical drives altogether, at least for the drive that hosts the OS.

Hope you get your issue resolved soon.

Best regards,

O

Thanks for the answer but in my case the SSD is not detected at all.

If no solution is found on the community forum I will contact lenovo support on monday and see if they can provide any good answer.

OK,  I hope it gets sorted soon for you.  Can you post back your experience.  I reckon allot of people will think like we did and want the benefit of a ssd. As well as your experience dealing with them. I have another issue I may need to contact them over I always dread contacting these places.

Best of luck with it.
