Re: Lenovo Yoga 500 plugged in not charging

I have a Lenovo Yoga 500. My notebook stopped charging the battery and so the only way it can be used is plugged in. We thought the battery was the problem however we replaced the battery and the problem persists. I have tried various chargers to ensure the charger is not faulty however this proved useless. When I move the mouse over the battery icon, it says plugged in not charging. Any idea what this could be? It is a new computer however warranty has expired. please advise

Re: Lenovo Yoga 500 plugged in not charging

FIrst thing you should try (and you probably already have) is to try to reset the CMOS. Unplug the computer and all peripherals, disconnect the battery (if you can) and hold the power button down for a full minute. Reconnect and reboot and see if the problem still exists.

If not, there's this solution from C|net:

1. Click Start and type device in the search field, then select Device Manager .
2. Expand the Batteries category.
3. Under the Batteries category, right-click the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listing, and select Uninstall .
WARNING: Do not remove the Microsoft AC Adapter driver or any other ACPI compliant driver.
4. On the Device Manager taskbar, click Scan for hardware changes .
Alternately, select Action > Scan for hardware changes .
Windows will scan your computer for hardware that doesn't have drivers installed, and will install the drivers needed to manage your battery's power. The notebook should now indicate that the battery is charging.

Let us know if any of that works.

Re: Lenovo Yoga 500 plugged in not charging

I have a Yoga 500 - 14IBD.

The problem with "Plugged in not charging" started about a month back.. the charge remaining in the battery was about 98% then. Over a period of time it came down to 40%. In the last month, I tried a variety of solutions suggested in various forums.. Looking at those solutions and comments on those solutions, each solution seems to have worked for some people, but has not worked for many. None of those helped me...

I am not sure if my solution that I am giving below will work for others.. but here it is

https://support.lenovo.com/in/en/solutions/ht103159

If you open the above link, there are two methods detailed. Method 1 had not worked for me.

In method 2, the first step was to update BIOS. I did this and it worked... Please do try if this works..

HOW TO UPDATE BIOS.

Please be careful when updating BIOS. Do check your Laptop model number and update accordingly. If you are not sure, please get to a technician

The steps I took

1. Search in lenovo support site for "how to check BIOS version" and "How to update BIOS"

2. I checked my BIOS version on my laptop currently

3. I went to Lenovo site and put my serial number

https://support.lenovo.com/in/en/

In the above webpage, please put your laptop serial number - It will let you know you laptop model and other information

On the top, there are menu items. Please select "Drivers and Software"

Choose the "operating system". For me it was Windows 10.

Under "component" I chose was "BIOS/UEFI"

Click on the DOWN arrow (under downloads). It will show you the latest version of BIOS.

In my case, I noticed that the version in my laptop was different from the latest version available

I downloaded the file.

Then I "ran the file" - it installed the BIOS update program. This program has a great user interface with the right instructions. Just follw the instructions, and you will have the latest BIOS. Hope that will solve the "Plugged in Not charging" issue

Please Note: As you would realise this solution is from "Lenovo Support site" and not something new that I found out. I have just tried to detail it out a bit..

Re:Lenovo Yoga 500 plugged in not charging

Updating BIOS does not work in this situation - because the Bios-Updater exits with an error message that the power supply must be connected.

What is the solution to this Chicken-egg-problem ?

Re:Lenovo Yoga 500 plugged in not charging

I have tried all of the above steps but cannot update my BIOS or my Intel Management Engine Firmware because I do not have enough charge (saying I need 25%) and I am only at 6%....

I need my laptop for everything with COVID and cannot afford to have it in the shop for a couple of days... help!
