Lenovo Yoga 700 Speakers Making Loud Buzzing Noise

I put my headphones in the jack today and heard a weird background noise. When I removed them, the computer speakers were making a loud buzzing noise as well.  The buzzing noise comes and goes and disappears if I mute the computer's volume.  I cannot hear any audio on my computer now (no music, videos, noise at start up/shut down, etc.).

I have tried updating the sound drivers and restarting the computer several times, but to no avail.  I have also tried to get sound with and without external speakers attached, with and without headphones in, etc. and I can only occassionally get the loud buzzing noise which is coming directly from both of the speaker vents on the bottom of the computer.  Thoughts on a solution?

Re: Lenovo Yoga 700 Speakers Making Loud Buzzing Noise

Hi there, Autumn –

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Try disabling the Mic

Right click on the speaker icon on the Lower right taskbar near the time and select Recording Devices.

Then turn off the Mic here or put the slider to the very right side.

Update us how it goes.

Still no sound after disabling the microphone. I'm thinking this is a more serious hardware issue,  which is really disappointing for a computer that is only 6 months old.

Have you tried to remove/replace the audio jack into the output area properly? Sometimes it gets loose and it's normal that you hear buzzing sound. Also, please, check if the headphones are ok.

Re: Lenovo Yoga 700 Speakers Making Loud Buzzing Noise

There is no sound or just buzzing with our without headphones or external speakers connected.  The computer has no sound or only buzzing with all speaker options. There is no noise when the computer starts up now, when I play videos, etc. The headphones and external speakers work fine on other devices.

Re: Lenovo Yoga 700 Speakers Making Loud Buzzing Noise

There is usually a hardware switch in the socket, which is engaged when you put the plug in. Seems like it might be mechanically broken.

I would recommend you to contact Lenovo service center and report your findings.

Re: Lenovo Yoga 700 Speakers Making Loud Buzzing Noise

I also have this problem. My speakers (both the regular ones and the headphone jack) will work right when I first turn on my computer, then usually within about 5 minutes there will be a really loud embarassing buzzing noise and then sound won't work.

I tried all the suggestions above and none of them fixed the issue.
