Lenovo Yoga 700 using keybord in tablet mode

2016-03-02, 12:19 PM

Hi.

I'd like to ask, is it possible to use keyboard in tablet mode?

I'd like to use Yoga with an exterior monitor, but I've read that the keyboard turns automatically off in tablet mode.

Thanks in advance,

Kuksss

Hi Kuksss,

Welcome to the Forums.

I understand your concern and will assist you to resolve this issue.

The touch keyboard doesn’t appear automatically, if you’re using a desktop app. Instead, you need to select keyboard in the taskbar.

Please refer to the Microsoft article link below, for further assistance and support.

How to use the Surface touch keyboard:

https://www.microsoft.com/surface/en-ca/support/touch-mouse-and-search/how-to-use-the-on-screen-keyboard?os=windows-10#Displayw10

While you are in tablet mode, I suggest you to press Windows key + R key, then type OSK and press enter to launch the keyboard.

I hope the above information helps.

Regards,

Shashi

Are you asking about using the physical keyboard of the Yoga 700? In other words, you want to attach an external monitor, fold the Yoga 700 into Tablet mode, place it on a desk with the keyboard facing up, and then use the keyboard/trackpad in combination with the display on the external monitor...?

If that is what you want to do, I'm afraid you are out of luck - the keyboard/trackpad of the Yoga models is disabled whenever the Yoga is folded into tablet, tent, or presentation mode. They only work when the Yoga is being used in laptop mode. This is by design.

I actually have a Yoga 3 Pro 1370 and was looking for the same thing (using an external monitor while using the laptop keyboard when folded in tablet mode) when I came across this link:

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjv79e-ir7VAhXIwVQKHVAnC-oQFggoMAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fforums.lenovo.com%2Ft5%2FLenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks%2FYoga-2-Pro-Enable-keyboard-in-tablet-mode%2Ftd-p%2F1503768&usg=AFQjCNEHnmRYjixOcqWgdfZ7L2VNE5ZQVQ

In this thread, a user posts that they were able to bypass this issue by placing a magnet to the left of the CapsLock key on the keyboard and it somehow tricked the internal whatchamacallit and enabled the keyboard.  I tried this and found that the magnet did work for me but just not in the location as mentioned there.

For me, I was able to get the keyboard to work while folded if I placed the magnet on the right side of the keyboard, to the right of the delete button.  There was a sweet spot there and I'm sure you have to use a strong enough magnet to get it just right, but it works.  Now I can use my external monitor with the laptop keyboard.

Lenovo should work to make this a feature that you can choose to keep the keyboard operational while technically in tablet mode for people that want to use an external monitor.
