Lenovo Yoga 710-14 Touchpad stops for a second after pressing on a keyboard

2017-02-09, 15:35 PM

Hello,

I bought my first lenovo computer and already ran in a few issues which I fixed after sometime except one that I cannot find anywhere. When I press a button on keyboard the touchpad locks for a single second and that really annoys in a graphical applications or games. I found a few posts that people fixed on older lenovos with turning off on palmsense on elan pointing device, but when I did it on the newest version it changed nothing so I decided to uninstall ELAN software completely and I got into another problem, that gestures don't work of course and now it got reversed but have the same problem still can't use them at the same time. How to fix this issue?

Computer:

Yoga 710  14 Lenovo i7-7500U/8GB/256GB/IntelHD 620/W10/Black

Hi there, Trone            -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Your TouchPad settings can be be adjusted to disable palmcheck which is a feature intended to prevent unintentional mouse movement while typing.

Go to

"Control Panel" > "Mouse"

Click on "Device settings" Tab

Click on the "Settings" button" (see illustration below)

Once the Synaptics properties comes up open up

You should be able to see a number of setting in which you can adjust.

Next, adjust this to minimum or to your preferred settings... (See illustration below.)

Update us how it goes.

Regards,

I have already tested way more that you could believe :) Thing is that if I connect mouse then everything is okay. Palm tracking is at minimum see the picture here: http://imgur.com/a/gsYrE
I've even tried using other drivers, none were able to be installed. Drivers for ELAN is updated too.

Shashi, I am sorry but I can only assume there is something missing from your post. You suggest to make some changes to settings, but you don't specify what settings to change.

Re: Lenovo Yoga 710-14 Touchpad stops for a second after pressing on a keyboard

Alright guys, I just want to quickly share how I fixed this extremely annoying issue after hours and hours of research and trying hundreds of reportedly solutions which all did not work for me! And honestly, I was very close to just giving up.
BUT ... I try to keep it short:
I have a Lenovo Yoga 710 14-IKB running Windows 10 64bit.

Many solutions you find in the internet are referring to deactivating the "palm check" or "palm sense" option. I've installed the latest Synaptics touch pad driver from the Lenovo homepage (v19.3.10.38.09May17). But it doesn't provide any options that are related to something like "palm check" or "palm sense".
I also tried to find older/newer touch pad drivers in the hope that these will provide this option for me - but without success.
-> Doesn't work for me

In many threads you read that the following solves the issue: "In the Registry, go to the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTP\Defaults, and set the value of all string entries of the form PalmKms…, to 0.".
But on my notebook such registry entries do not exist.
-> Doesn't work for me

In the end this post led me to the solution:
https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Video-Display-and-Touch/How-to-disable-quot-Smartsense-quot-on-Synaptics-Touchpad/m-p/5577594#M130101

I searched in the registry for "PalmRT" and changed its values to "0".
I did not change them all at once. I changed them one after another.
After each change I restarted my notebook to see if changing the value of this "PalmRT"-entry did solve the problem.
(Note: I haven't touched the values of entries like "PalmRTPoint" or "PalmRTTap" - only "PalmRT".)

In my case the first finding was in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synaptics\SynTP\TouchPadPS2TM2334".
Changing this did not solve the issue.
The second finding was in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synaptics\SynTP\TouchPadSMB2cTM2334".
And after changing this to "0" and restarting the notebook the issue was gone!
I couldn't believe my eyes, but I was finally able to type and move the mouse via the touch pad at the same time - without any delay.

Hope this post helps someone else.

This helped me too

I made an account just to reply to this post. THE SOLUTION ABOVE WORKED (from z0ndor). I have had this problem for two years on my lenovo yoga 900 and repeatedly looked for a fix.

The entry I found specifically was:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTP\Defaults
It was named PalmRT and had a value of 3. After restart the problem was fixed.
