My lenovo Yoga 710 sd card reader doesn't work. It worked fine the other day, but now it comes up with "You need to format the disk before you can use it." when I try to format, it says it is write protected.
SD Card works in everything else and even works in a sd card reader plugged into the USB, it just won't work in the Card reader.
I have tried to format it is diskpart and have reloaded drivers. Any ideas? This is the second laptop that had this problem, the first was a sony and I just delt with it never able to fix the issue, but now this is bugging me.

Hi malibu73 ,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
Would another fresh SD also show the same error ?
Backup your data and ensure that your system is free from any virus or malware by doing a full scan including your removable media card ( SD card ,pendrivers , external harddrive ( you can also scan your other pc).
Update us how it goes.

The SD cards works in other built in SD card readers in other computers and will work in an external SD card reader plugged into the USB, just not in the built in card reader on the yoga.
I've tried step 2 but there is no folder called StorageDevicePolicies
I created one and no luck. Tried the other steps too.
In disk part I was able to attributes disk clear read only, but then tired to clean disk and it said unable to becasue of an i/o device error

Hi malibu73 ,
Any other SD card doing the same issue?
Setting expectation , a factory reset would isolate the problem if hardware is the problem as you already have updated the BIOS , chipsets , USB drivers and having the SD card recognized and formatted smoothly on another computer.
On this scenario , you can call in technical support for repair option if needed considering the I/O error too.

Every SD card I put in the reader does the same thing and everyone of them will work no issues in other readers and if I use them in an external card reader. So I can access them, it would just be nice for the built in card reader to work.
I just bought the computer about 2 weeks ago and it worked once then next time I tried it stopped working right after.
"already have updated the BIOS , chipsets , USB drivers"
Where would I go to get the updates specifically for the bios and chip set? I did the check for updates in the lenovo settings and it said I had nothing to update, but I haven't manually downloaded anything.
As for USB driver, is that the driver for the card reader? That I have manually downloaded and still didn't help.
It's weird that this exact problem happened on my other computer and makes me wonder if it was a card reader that caused the issue some how? Every seen or heard of that? I just figured my other computer was old and that was the issue until I got this one and it did the same?
"On this scenario , you can call in technical support for repair option if needed considering the I/O error too. "
is this I/O error related or another error? What does i/o error mean?

Hi malibu73 ,
You can visit support.lenovo.com to check version for the BIOS and chipsets.
I/O would be for input/output
Same reason why I would have thoughts on possible infection of the SD cards infecting both laptops (old and new).
Not unless that we have a factory clean machine and a brand new SD card to be dedicated only on the machine that we can observe and isolate the issue from hardware and software.

If the card works in every other card reader what would your best guess be. Hardware or software? What would be the steps to uninstalling the reader completly and starting over? Pretty sure I have already done it, but couldn't hurt now time has passed. I HATE trouble shooting computer problems. haha thats why i keep putting it off, but I really need this card reader to work for 3d printing and not tieing up my computer.
