Lenovo Yoga 710 freezes

I just got a brand new Yoga 710 with 7th gen i7 (Yoga 710-14IKB 80V4). I've been using it for a couple of days only and already it has several times frozen to a state where nothing else than pressing power button for a long time helps. The issue can be repeated if I e.g. leave the laptop viewing youtube it will freeze. It varies how long it takes but it seems to always happen sooner or later.

 

Is there any other fix to this but refund? I was planning to have this laptop for several years and the start is not very promising. So I'll be pretty easily executing my right to return within 30 days.

Run a few tests from this link -

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/lenovodiagnosticsolutions/tools

 

You should try Storage test, memory test, motherboard test, CPU test. Open Command prompt and try sfc /scannow to check if your windows files are corrupted.

 

Since your system is new, you can try a system reset by pressing the NOVO button. This will delete all personal data and restore laptop to original state.

 

Post results and let’s review.

The laptop has Lenovo Companion installed, I suppose it's the same as you linked? Besides OK it gave me result codes, see below:

CPU: WCP020000-RL8VOF (OK)

Memory: WME800000-RL8VOF (OK)

Storage test:WHD008000-RL8VOF (OK)

Motherboard: WMB010000-RL8VOF (OK)

PCI Express and WLAN were ok too.

 

And scf /scannow returned "Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations."

 

So apparently "nothing is wrong", except for that random freezing. I haven't even installed much besides MS Office and Adobe reader.

And the issue still remains. This morning the same thing happened while "no" programs were open i.e. nobody was doing anything with the laptop, it was just idle on the desk. So there's no blue screen, ctrl-alt-del does nothing (if these even apply in W10), the computer just totally freezes, doesn't respond to anything and the screen remains on.

 

Otherwise I really like the laptop and would like to give it another change. But if this issue remains it's going to make me return and switch to another example at least.

Try uninstalling antivirus. Also, check if issue persist in safe mode or not.

 

Also, the random freezing was caused by electrostatic discharge. Sometime using the laptop on a glass surface, and when touched the metal parts, the discharge performed, and causes the freezing.

Hence try placing laptop on a wood table & check.

The only antivirus used so far has been the Windows Defender. I don't know if it even allows itself to be removed nor do I have much interest to use the laptop with no antivirus. When it comes to tables the laptop has so far only been used on wooden tables and a good part of the crashes have happened without anyone touching the machine. 

 

But as I was about to give up I tried to install windows again. Perhaps there was something wrong with the updates. I did that yesterday and youtube marathon I left running last night was still running in the morning. So far so good but I'll knock on that wooden table an see how this works in the days to come.

Ok, even a fresh windows install didn't solve the issue. Like in any relationship, if reliability isn't there the other nice aspects really don't matter. So this wasn't a keeper for me but thanks for all the help anyway!
