Lenovo Yoga 730 (730-13IKB, 730-13IWL) Hinge(s) Issue

2019-04-21, 6:29 AM
Okay so I own a Lenovo Yoga 730-13IKB, when I open my laptop I can hear like a creaking sound coming from the hinges. Is that normal? I don't think so since other laptops I've owned have never had that. Do any of you have a similar issue when opening your laptop?

Re: Lenovo Yoga 730 (730-13IKB, 730-13IWL) Issues

Hi and welcome to the community,

I removed your posts asking for all issues to be mentioned in one thread.

Each issue with any machine requires its own separate thread so solutions and possible fixes can be traced.  To have all issues lumped together into one thread defeats the purpose of searching for a solution to a particular problem.

Thank you for understanding.

Regards,

Dave

Hi jhdezjr

I bought the 730-13IWL on the 1st of April, I have the same creaking noise on the left hinge. I think it has to do with the elasticity of the screen.

Other hinge issues that I read here were related to the cracking of the glass screen on the side of the hinge, I think you shouldn't think of this as a problem as long as it doesn't crack or become a bigger problem.

Thank goodness I'm not the only one with this concern. Yeah, I've read reviews online on Best Buy (where I purchased it), Lenovo's website, and of course forums on Reddit and of course the Lenovo Community site. Anyways from what I've read my understanding is this machine has a design flaw with its hinges and causes the screen to flicker and like you've mentioned cracking potentially. I really love this laptop and trust Lenovo since I own an IdeaPad Y700 (Gaming Laptop) and have never had issues with it.

Hello jhdezjr!

Welcome to the community forums. A laptop hinge is typically made up of two metal brackets connected via a pin that allows them to rotate. The solution in this scenario would be to open up the hinge covers to provide access to the hinges, loosen up the locking nuts and re-grease the washer mating surfaces before re-assembly. You may use the hardware maintenance manual as a guide on how to: https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/yoga730-13ikb_hmm_201810.pdf?Source=social_eservices&Medium=LITHIUM&Term=eServices_&Content=20190504_20190504162624&linkId=66935570.

Is machine less than a year old and still in-warranty? Please call support to set up a repair ticket: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/SupportPhoneList?Source=social_eservices&Medium=LITHIUM&Term=eServices_&Content=20190504_20190504162625&linkId=66935571.
