Lenovo Yoga 900 13isk pcie ssd

Hello

I have a Lenovo Yoga 900 13ISK (not 13ISK2) with a SATA M.2 SSD. I know that the 13ISK2 supports PCIe SSDs with NVMe. Does the 13ISK also support PCIe and NVMe on the M.2 connector or is it SATA only?

Re: Lenovo Yoga 900 13isk pcie ssd

Hi WalterWolf ,

Welcome to the COmmunity FOrums.

For the Yoga 900 13ISK based from the hardware specification (page 27) :

SSD: • 256 GB or 512 GB, SATA

Sample part number MZNLN512HCJH Model: PM871

Interface:  Serial ATA 6.0 Gbps   Form Factor:  M.2

PCIe is not used in this model for the M.2 technology unlike the newer Yoga 900 as with this review (14:20).

Hope this help answer your query.

Regards

Re: Lenovo Yoga 900 13isk pcie ssd

Hi WalterWolf ,

Greetings.

General YOGA 900 (13'') Platform Specifications:

M.2 SSD :
Some: M.2 SSD / SATA 6.0Gb/s
Some: M.2 SSD / PCIe 3.0 x 4, 32Gb/s

To match which would have SATA and which have PCIe support here on the product specifications sheet showing Lenovo YOGA 900-13ISK 256GB / 512GB SSD M.2 and Lenovo YOGA 900-13ISK2  256GB / 512GB SSD M.2 PCIe  based with each machine numbers.

Reading on tech reviews can also help similar to this as quoted " The SSD is upgradeable and it lives in an M.2 slot. Lenovo went with SATA interface SSDs rather than the faster PCIe

Base on the documents , I would not encourage you to buy M.2 upgrade storage for expected PCIe performance since it may not be electrically active on the port.

I hope the product specification sheet help you answer your query more.

Regards

Re: Lenovo Yoga 900 13isk pcie ssd

Hi spidey101

Thank again for your answer. It looks like PCIe isnt supported if I look at the specifications sheets although it doesnt specificy that its not supported either. So I'm still unsure and maybe I can try it out at some point in the future to be sure... But for now I will accept your answer as solution since its the nearest I can get to an answer.

Re: Lenovo Yoga 900 13isk pcie ssd

I have a 80MK002CUS (according to the Lenovo autodetect utility), which isn't on the list and I can't find it online. I'm trying to determine if it will support an NVMe SSD drive, specifically a Samsung 960 EVO.

Thanks

Re: Lenovo Yoga 900 13isk pcie ssd

Hi!

The topic is solved but I haven't seen the solution.

As far as I have seen all Mainboards of the Yoga 900 13ISK have NVMe/Sata and no "just Sata" ports. => NVMe should be possible with a Yoga 900 13ISK.

Are there any news that an NVMe device definitely will not work?

THNX 4 the info.

P.S.: As I will receive a Samsung 961 512GB device for an other PC I could check if it works with the Yoga.

=> If somebody is still interested in late 2017: Let me know and I'll check if it is possible... ;->

Re: Lenovo Yoga 900 13isk pcie ssd

I have tested a NVMe SSD Samsung 960 PRO on a Yoga 900-13isk: The NVMe SSD is not recognized by the bios. It seems only the sata-part of the M.2-Interface is active in the 900-13isk.

Re: Lenovo Yoga 900 13isk pcie ssd

I have Lenovo yoga 900-13ISK. I tried upgrading SSD using Samsung SSD 960 EVO M.2 and it did not work. I had to return it. It supports SATA only. It does not work with PCIe and NVMe.
