Lenovo Yoga 900 - FAN ISSUE

I bought the Lenovo Yoga 900 a week ago. So far I'm quite happy with the Laptop , but there's one problem I have. The Fan starts spinning wildly every so often . And this drains my battery real quick. I get only about 4-5 hours . It happens while surfing using fiefox / chrome / edge. Task Manager shows that the CPU/ MEMORY Usage of the browsers is extremely high , in turn driving my cpu to a utilization of above 60% with no other apps running .

This is a serious bummer , and I have no clue as to what can be done . As if this isn't enough , Windows Compatibility Telemetry is another service that occasionally causes a spike in the CPU usage. That I understand is a Windows issue. But the fan is quite disturbing. Any suggestions would be great Smiley Happy

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

 

You can expect higher fan activity during the first few days of a new Yoga 900. During that time, Windows will be downloading updates, and indexing the SSD data. Things should then quieten down.

 

If things are not quietening down on your system, it may be worth using Task Manager to see what applications or processes are triggering the fan activity.

Hi Shashi ,

 

I did remember you mmentioning this a as a reply to another individual with the same question on the forum. Is it fine if this continues even a week after of the purchase of the system ?

Krishnan, when issue is same with similar model, then i would suggest to perform similar steps.

 

Also, run a few tests from this link -

You should try Storage test, memory test, motherboard test, CPU test. Open Command prompt and try sfc /scannow to check if your windows files are corrupted.

 

However, even after doing all this, if fan noise not I would suggest you visit the nearest Lenovo service centres for better assistance. Schedule a Call-back for faster support since your system is brand new one & doing anything would void the warranty.
