Looking at the psref, Memory is soldered to System Board so upgrading Memory is not possible.

Of course, that wasn't the answer anybody wanted to hear...
Please tell your engineers, that we want to see socketed RAM - especially in expensive, high end models!
This is not only important when an upgrade becomes necessary, but also for repairs, in case a memory module becomes faulty.

Sockets take up more space. I always prefer socketed CPUs and RAM, but most people prefer "thinner and lighter".

Do research before you buy a laptop. Models like the Yoga 920 and Dell XPS value light weight and ultra slim profile over RAM upgrades. If you want to upgrade RAM get an $$$ gaming laptop like the HP Omen series or MSI Titan, the latter of which can be spec-ed out up to $4K (and weighs 12 pounds). Besides, even if you could upgrade the RAM, it would be difficult to access it. For example the Yoga 920 is also a hassle just to change out the SSD since it is under the motherboard.

I think its really mostly corporate marketing departments, that are over-eager for thin and light, to the point of shedding critical functionality - from peeking at competing companies, its like a circular re-inforcement cycle. "they do it, so we must do it too"
Customers want thin and light too, but not to the point of giving up important functionality. There's actually a competitor that's as thin but still has socketed RAM. But many don't.
Either way, your Yoga 920 is a beautiful piece of work with a great functionality mix, but the 16GB version is globally very difficult to find - and you yourself refuse to ship overseas, while you did not open a local internet store for many other countries. EU Citizens have no Lenovo store they can order from.
It seems like Lenovo only likes America - not even your own country - in Hong Kong or Shenzhen its more difficult to buy a recent model Lenovo - only older models where the old models sometimes cost as much as the new models in the U.S. store...

To the OP, do you really need 16 GB? My Dell XPS 13 I bought the lowest spec model because I am only using it for travel and airline flights. It has 8 GB RAM and a 128 GB HDD. On top of that, I thought it had an NVMe PCIE SSD but found out the vendor stuck in a SATA III SSD in the M.2 socket - you get what you pay for. So the SSD only runs at 500/500 MBPS Read/Write. Frankly, the Dell is just as speedy as my Yoga 920 with 16 GB RAM and 512 GB Samsung 3000/1550 R/W SSD. Only reason the Dell boots up in 6-7 sec versus 4-5 sec is because Dell's do the BIOS post routine on boot, whereas the Lenovo's do away with that. The Lenovo feels a tad snappier in routine tasks but the Dell is plenty fast as is. Where you need a lot of RAM is gaming, particularly when loading the games.

As mentioned upthread, RAM is soldered to the board and is not upgradeable. It'd help to know what programs you're running that are having problems and what those problems are. I have the 8MB 920 and haven't run into any issues at all, let alone RAM-related. But then, I'm not a gamer nor do I run CAD programs.

Presumption here, but if the RAM chips are surface mounted, a very good PCB tech could probably swap out the 8GB for chips double the size. Bit of an effort and the tech would need to shield the rest of the pcb from heat from the rework gun. But in theory possible yes? Note such work would void a warranty.
