Re: Lenovo Yoga C740 (15") fan noise

I also have a problem like this, and that looks promising! But I sadly don't really understand what to do next, I understand the regedit tweak and all, but is that it? Is there something more I should I do once I have done this? Any specific power-profile I should take?

You should be able to access the advanced power settings and change the System Cooling Policy to Passive, as per the Youtube video, after doing the regedit steps. I generally use the Balanced profile, but that's just personal preference.

Re:Lenovo Yoga C740 (14") fan noise

I' bought a Lenovo Yoga s740 two weeks ago! what a disappointment.... :(.  It is the most expensive laptop I owned and the worse I owned....

Major issues:

  • Fan noise is incredible loud and annoying. My other 200€ laptop is so quiet....
  • Bad performance processor... is it an i7? really? My old laptop with an i7-3610QM is faster....
  • The graphics card... :(
  • Keyboard looks like  cheap... :(
  • If bios is updated to version 31, the thunderbolt port disconnects. Can never put an external display again. I had to flash back the old bios version.

Pros:

  • The display is amazing!
  • the sound is amazing!

But a is not only a display and sound. .....

1600€ for this???????

I will never buy Lenovo again....

By the way, I tried so many solutions for the fan noise.... it really heart may ears. Not comfortable  at all.  The bios update seems to be what worked a little better. But I loose the thunderbolt port :(

Same here. VERY ANNOYING!!!

I did the regedit fix and as soon as I change the cooling fan option to Passive, the fan stopped. But now my question is what kind of performance are we giving up by doing this. Anybody savvy enough to check this out?

I really think Lenovo should issue a recall and fix these fans.

Well, I take this all back. The fan still comes on and is VERY ANNOYING, hurts my ears big time. I'm thinking of seriously returning the laptop. Disappointing as I really liked my previous Yoga.

This did the trick for me;

For the non-dutch; USB always on (charging usb ports while in sleep mode or when laptop is turned off).

Disable this en no more fannoisssssssssssseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Even combined with performance setting in cooling.

Hey -

So I followed these instructions and it did stop the fan noise.

However, my comp now glitches and shuts down completely after about 10 mins of no use. To switch back on, I must hold down the on button for 10 seconds plus and restore all.

This is worrying.

Did you experience anything like this?

Thanks

Hi there,

No, we didn't have the problems you are having.

The laptop is still running quietly en is not producing excessive heat and/or is experiencing any shutdowns whatsoever.

We use the laptop on a flat surface only.

Greetings
