Lenovo Yoga C940 14 - Power on button does not work

2020-01-17, 0:39 AM

Hi everyone

I have just received my brand new C940 Lenovo yesterday and the power button only works while plugged-in. The laptop is just out of the box.

At first, i did hit the power button but nothing happened so as it just came out of the box i decided to plug-in the power until i got it charged to 100%. The updates from Windows got installed and after just internet browsing i turned it off.

The second time ever i tried to turn it on ( not plugged in as it was 100% charged just yesterday) i hit the power button and nothing happened... the only way i can turn it on is while power is plugged....

I have updated to win10 1909 as someone suggested in otther post but issue still persists.

Have anyone experienced the same?, i will certainly call for support/warranty but i wanted to know if there is any solution here.

To see if this correlates with my past issue of turning on the c940:
Does the keyboard turn on when trying to power on the device without it plugged in? Does the white LED in the power button turn on too? Or does everything remain turned off after trying to turn it on without a power supply?

After you turn it on with it being plugged it, try putting it to sleep. Does it wake from sleep everytime? Or are there times when it stays in sleep mode?

While not plugged in, the keyboard does not turn on while trying to power on and the LED light in the power button does not light on either, everything remains turned off.

To your second point re: Sleep. I have tried a few times and it always worked to wake it up (the LED light in power button was flashing on and off smothly).

I see, definitely a different issue than what I experienced. I read on reddit of someone that had your exact issue fixed by removing and reconnecting the battery in it's socket. I wouldn't suggest doing this unless you're specified to do so by someone officially by Lenovo here or by phone call/direct site support. If you're actually willing to do it at your own risk to try it out, then here you go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxv6ruWbgHg

Appreciate the information, nevetheless, there is no guarantee that the issue will be solved by unplugging the battery socket. I will wait for a formal response from Lenovo and see how to progress from there.

Cheers

Since Lenovo support has taken time to reply

Someone with a Yoga did the remove battery and put back again and it fixed it for them. Hopefully someone from support actually comes and gives approval for doing something of the sort or other guidance.
