Lenovo Yoga C940 - Digital Pen Compatibility

2020-09-11, 23:21 PM

I recently purchased a Lenovo Yoga C940, and am looking to purchase a better digital pen.

Note: The one that works with it is okay, but I would like to have another pen, since when the battery dies, I have to stop what I am doing in tablet mode until it charges.

I am trying to decide between a Surface Pen (IF it is compatible with my device) or some other model. The main factors in my decision will be: compatibility (for the surface Pen), battery life, & price. I would prefer a pen with 3 buttons [at least 2 programmable], but if the Surface Pen is compatible, I may be willing to forego that specification.

So, long lead up, but my question is:

  • Is the Surface Pen compatible with my Lenovo Yoga C940?
  • If not, what pen would best suit my needs/ desired specs?

Sorry for the extremely long build up; I am just trying to make sure I am getting all pertinent information before making a decision.

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Hi trevor114,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

OEM recommended pen would be PN 01FR725 WCM 11034B6 D6.5 BK A Pen.

This is the same one with the garage that came with your machine.

Surface pen uses MPP (Microsoft Pen Protocol) so it likely won't work.

Other pens that have better chance of compatibility are WACOM AES pen like Wacom Bamboo Ink/Ink Plus.

I hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

I have looked around at Wacom Bamboo Pens, but a lot of the reviews I have seen say that they have a fair bit of a "wobble" to them. I was looking at the Active Pen 2 or the Pen Pro (both being Lenovo). Will both work with my computer? (And if so, do you personally have a recommendation?)

Hi trevor114,

Both are expected to work as it offers same 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity and buttons.

It may just be costing and "hand-feel" that you need to consider.

I would just suggest that you check it with your colleagues that uses the same apps as you for their user experience instead.

Regards

I tried the wacom bamboo pro and the lenovo pen pro.

The wacom had a great feeling (even better than the lenovo) but it had problems with the connection and yes, the lines where wobbly... After tjat i bought the lenovo pen pro and it works great. Its not cheap, but its worth the price.

Good luck and have a nice day!
