Re:Lenovo Yoga C940 screen glitches, flickering, flashing

2020-12-19, 18:40 PM

Purchased the laptop on Nov 20th, received it a few days later and it was beautiful.

On December 8th the glitches started, and it was bad right off the start. Glitches, snow, black screen, on, off, at one point, couldn't even see the Lenovo logo at startup to get into bios.

Been following this forum since the 10th. Attempted to install the driver but it wouldn't install, so I left the original 2019 version.

On the 13th opened up a ticket with Lenovo and provided pictures and videos. Of course, Murphy's Law decided to show up and the glitches stopped for 36 hours. It glitched again, lightly for a couple of hours while watching Netflix, eventually no more glitches.

Lenovo answered on the 15th saying it's hardware and to ship it in.

Now since then, I've only used the laptop for 20-40 min a day there have been no glitches.

I just installed the 9030 and going to try to use the laptop for a few hours this weekend to determine if I should ship it out for repair or not.

I just got the issue once again. So the 27.20.100.9030 driver hasn't helped in my case.

We should all just go down the warranty route. 3 attempts to fix and then money back.

I'm going to do that in the new year as I'm also hacked off that the battery drains when the laptop is completely switched off. none of my other laptops do that!

I'll just recover my backup to my trusty Yoga 2 Pro which in all essence is actually just as good a machine despite being 6 years old. I've used it for hundreds of DJ gigs and never ever had a problem.

The C940 is utter crap.

I have exact same problem. When the technician came he replaced the LED display. But the problem now got worse, almost to the point I am unable to work on the laptop unless external display is used. I am guessing it's to do with on-board graphic processor which is faulty. The problem seems to be getting worse.

Re:Lenovo Yoga C940 screen glitches, flickering, flashing

IF i am not wrong, there had been some people who also got his/her device's mainboard replced and still got the issue.. I am not sure i am trying to read hundreds of pages for mroe than 1 month about it. And also I do not know what is this issue exactly about..

For going warranty route you must have time and of course some other device to use in this period of time.

I will just arrange another device to back up my data and then send this.

Some people may not understand this decision and please let me tell you why.....

Its so much ridicolous to try to solve a problem about a device all alone without any support or care.. and it is especialy if u payed a lot of money for it...

There is law, there are customer rights... We are not living in a jungle.

They cant produce a machine or software,( whatever it is ) sell it, and then step back and watch people who need help about it.

This is not the way it should be. And obviously they will learn it with a hard way. And this way is the warranty route for me.

I respect to everyone's ideas. But idea is something, ideal one is something else. I am talking about the ideal solution.

Regards.

One thing I noticed: When I get the multiple taskbars I do Alt+Tab to switch focus to another window. The problem then immediately disappears. I can then quickly continue working.

The problem only disappears for the moment of course, it doesn't solve anything in the long run.

I guess this would be one more indication that the problem is software and not hardware.

I just had the issue again, and to clarify, to get quickly back to what I was doing, I do Alt+Tab twice. The first Alt+Tab shifts focus to another window (and clears the multiple taskbars) and the second Alt+Tab shifts back into what I was doing before.

if you dont use an app that dont use hardware acceleration it will stop. thats whats happening when you switch windows (tabs).

Problem = Hardware acceleration

Something changed in Windows 10 20H1 and 20H2, but 1909 works great. Doesnt matter wich gfx driver you use. old or new.

It might even be the CPU/GPU,.....who knows

%100 correct.

With my tests as i explained before, In the latest version with all drivers up to date, if you close hardware acceralation in settings menu of the applications like Edge, Chrome and Office, you wont live this issue. So that %100 shows that this problem is related to hardware acceralation.

According to my user experience this can  be related to only 2 reasons;

1: Something or somethings in the hardware can be incompatible with hardware acceralation feature of latest windows 10. ( this is the worst case scenario because no any driver can help with this)

2: Hardware can be compatible but Lenovo still could not prepare a specific driver for this hardware to work properly with this feature. ( in this case you would have to wait for them and they cant even respond to us so i think it could be a loong long wait)

so i repeat, whatever the reason is for me warranty route is the best way to go.
