@Dawe23 This sounds like the installer package didn't download properly. Have you tried re-downloading it to see if it works? Also did you run it with administrator privileges? If that doesn't work, try looking in C:\Intel\Logs (this folder might be hidden, enable "show hidden items" in the View tab of the File Explorer ribbon) for a file that was recently created as the installer may store its logs there.

@mikeporter2000 The Yoga 710 might benefit from the Intel IME driver mentioned by Amy_Lenovo in the solution to this thread (3 posts above yours), try installing it to see if it helps or try my workaround mentioned in that post?

@AshAnne Use the Lenovo Companion app to check for updates or try here (ACPI driver is the same as energy management):

Re: Lenovo yoga 500 - sudden black screen

Hi Guys,

I had the same problem with my ideapad 500 14ISK. Problems started a few weeks ago, i followed all the forum advices (except the work around from Matt) and the problems seemed the solved a few weeks ago. Yesterday was the first time in a week and a half that the Black screen returnes. Frustrated, (because of the loss of some schoolwork), i went back to the store. I explained everything there and they even got a ''geek'' from the back to help me further.

The first thing he said to me after hearing me out, was to immidiately replace the laptop. This due to the fact that is is highly likely further Windows, Intel or GPU updates can arise the same problem. My laptop is being sent over to Lenovo as i'm writing this and it will be gone for about three weeks (it was only three weeks since i bought the Ideapad, so i am a little bummed out). But i was wondering what Lenovo will do about this? Are they going to try to ''fix'' my laptop or instantly replace it? Because if i have to believe the store employee, a temporary fix will still risk the same problem in the future right?

greetings Chris

Dear MattDN93

I tried your steps, but doesn't solved my problem. When the setup was stopped, it show some error log file. I attach this log file, I think this is the right, but if this isn't, I will search the right. :)

Thanks for your help!

Sincerely,

Dave

Re: Lenovo yoga 500 - sudden black screen

Did you resolve this? I have an 18 month old Yoga 13 that has done the same. It's out of warranty so they want £300 for repairs, a new mainboard. (yes... £300!!) They also said the laptop has been 'inappropriately treated', it hasn't, it's never been out of our living room. I have another 3 year old laptop (not Lenovo) that travels all over the world with me, I'd accept that one has been inappropriately treated.

There are obviously quite a few people with this issue, I'm trying to build a picture of just how widespread this issue is and get Lenovo to at least acknowledge it is a design issue. Hard discs, screens, keyboards, batteries etc to some extent I can accept failing inside 18 months but I have never had a main board fail, ever and I've had desktops and laptops that have served me well for 5-6 years before I've binned them with the man board still working.

Let me know or reply on here.

It's not just you - My Yoga 500-14ISK manufactured late 2015 and bought early 2016 just had the mainboard replaced in warranty (for a battery charging issue, but it also had the black-screening).

I've had no further black screening (actually it stopped on the older board before the battery charging issue appeared) since the replacement.

I've owned a 5 year old HP dv6 that I disassembled completely 4 times and it's still going, I'm very surprised about this Lenovo that I treated very well and yet had such a serious hardware fault. The replacement was fairly painless though so I'll keep using this and hope for the best.

Hey Dave,

Sorry it's so late! My apologies, I'm not well-versed enough in this to identify the exact problem from those logs, although it did seem you got an abort at "Installing 'ME_MEI_Drivers_x64.msi'". That doesn't explain anything more than that the MEI drivers failed to install....which you already know ;) Are you using 32 or 64 bit Windows, perhaps try x86 installer if you're using 32-bit Windows or run compatibility mode, that's all I can suggest!

Re: Lenovo yoga 500 - sudden black screen

Hi,

I have had my laptop 2 months and only really been using it for the last month or so but i keep getting the black screen. screen goes black and then i have to turn it off with the power button and turn it back on again which is a night mare when i have been working. It goes off whilst im actually typing on it or scrolling so its not like it should be going to sleep.

I have tried the work arounds on this forum but nothing works and now whenever i try and look for updates or try and update it at all i get an error message!

'system update - your system is not supported for system update'

I have no idea where i am going wrong or how to correct this.

I have the Lenovo Yoga 500 15.6inch touchscreen 2-in-1 laptop. Any help would be greatly apreciated... if any one needs any further info about the laptop i can only find it if you tell me where to look (sorry i sound really stupid dont i... im just at a loss what to do)

Thanks in advance!

Hi tonimles,

Member @drfranklin1 has found a solution to this issue which seems to be working fine for many; try his workaround here: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-IdeaPad-100-305-500-Edge/Flex-3-screen-turns-off-when-working-on-battery/m-p/3481563#M40778

His fix is for the "Lenovo Flex 3" but this is simply a US-branded renamed Yoga 500 and has identical hardware.
Hope this helps! :)
