Re: Lenovo yoga external monitor goes blank periodically

Hi,

I too am having this problem with several Yoga 13s.

We are a school, and several of the devices are acting much as described here.

They will randomly lose the signal and bounce back.

I've updated everything I could, they are plugged into the electrical, and the power settings are set for Max Performance.   What other settings should I try?

I have this problem too.  Bought mine in Jan 2014 with all latest BIOS and drivers factory installed.  Whatever this problem is, it has not been fixed yet.  Does Lenovo know that this is still an issue?

I have the same problem, but a colleage of mine (with the same problem) pointed me to this page: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?DocID=HT081248, and I am now eagerly "testing" to see if it fixes the problem. :)

Please note that I have just run the exe-file, and cannot confirm anything yet!!

Thanks Kirsten, but don't think that applies, not to me anyway.  I have a yoga Idea Pad not a Think pad, and am not using a Lenovo dock.

Re: Lenovo yoga external monitor goes blank periodically

Hey guys,

I recently bought a 13" Yoga Ideapad and I had the same problem and there didn't seem to be a good solution anywhere. Therefore I tried something myself and I figured out two sollutions.

First of all the problem I had: I bought an HDMI-> VGA adapter to connect an external monitor via a VGA cable to my Yoga. As soon as I started using it, the screen went blank once every few minutes (and sometimes every so many seconds).

I believe the trouble is that the display adapter tries to rescale the output all the time and therefore has to do a whole lot of calculations and just doesn't keep up and therefore it goes blank.

Solution 1: For the external monitor that supported it, I started using a HDMI cable and my troubles were gone directly. This is the easiest option if your monitor supports a HDMI cable.

Solution 2:

a. Download the latest Intel drivers for the display adapter here https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=23639&keyword=HD+Graphics+4000&lang=eng (this is the 64 bit version).

b. Install the driver. It will install a Intel HD Graphics Control Panel as well (this is what you need)

c. Open the HD Graphics Control Panel. Go to the section 'display' and select your external monitor on the left hand side. Select a refresh rate of 60Hz. And under scaling you should select 'Maintain display scaling'.

Now your problems should be solved.

(If necessary: Change the frequency to 60Hz  Play around with the resolution to get the resolution that fits the external monitor the best.)

Good luck and enjoy!

Tried to download those drivers but it said they were incompatible with my computer.

FYI, I switched to HDMI a couple weeks ago and my screen blanking did improve a lot, but it still happens sometimes.  Seems like it will be fine for a while, then once it starts up it keeps going for a while.

Hey Qofmiwok,

Nice to read that the HDMI option works for you as well. In my case it never goes black, only the VGA option sometimes.

Concerning the drivers:

Maybe you have different hardware and or different OS than I have.

To check your OS, go to your control panel and check under 'system' what is indicated. In my case it's windows 8.1, 64-bit.

To check your hardware, go to 'device manager' in your control panel and check the look up the hardware name under 'display adapters'.

You can use this combination to find the approriate drivers on the intel site of which I posted a link before.
