Missing Dolby Home Theater after update to Windows 8.1

2013-11-14, 8:35 AM

The subject is already summarizing it: After my update to Win 8.1 there is no Dolby Home theater anymore. I installed the Conexant driver for 8.1 from the Lenovo website.

Who can help?

Uninstall the Conexant HD audio driver. Reboot the machine (very important). Install the updated Conexant HD Audio driver. Should bring the Dolby back.

Hm, that's weird... actually I uninstalled the old Conexant Audio driver BEFORE the update to Windows 8.1 (the update did not run through before doing that, it took me weeks to find out).
I installed the latest driver AFTER the update.

I will try it nevertheless.

Now that's interesting:

After deinstalling the Conexant HD Audio Driver from the list of programs, rebooting, seeing it not working and doing it again for two times I found out that

In the desktop control panel in the audio section there is indeed an entry for Dolby Home Theater. This brings up a GUI to select different equalizer settings. Everything is working nicely.

I never used this Interface before and when I said Dolby Home Theater would be missing I was referring to the little icon in the systray (lower right of the desktop). Using this icon I was able to switch between three diferent modes easily. This icon is gone and it doesn't reappear when installing the driver package.

I double-checked the list of auto-start programs and services -- nothing seems to be missing/deactivated which relates to Dolby.

Any further ideas?

Do you guys who already updated to Windows 8.1 still have the Dolby Home Theater icon in the systray in the lower right of the desktop? Can anyone confirm?

I don't have anything in the system tray but it is in the Control Panel.
