New Yoga 2 Pro - Impossible to turn screen on, please help

2013-12-06, 19:04 PM

Hi,

I just go a brand new Yoga 2 Pro (bought on Lenovo UK), which I managed to switch on and configure. I installed Chrome, Avast, and Comodo Firewall. It asked me to reboot so I did...and after a few seconds of rebooting the mouse completely froze. The touch screen still seemed ok at that point. I then got a blue screen (some watchdog error violation), which said the computer had to restart...which it never did...since then all I get when I try to switch it on is nothing, the screen stays black. I even pressed the NOVO button for 1 key recovery but nothing...I can't even call support as it is after 6 on Friday. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there another way to do a factory reset?

Thanks in advance...

Is there no one who can help? Any way of resetting without going through the screen as the screen just refuses to switch on ? The keyboard and the power button light up and I can hear the fan running but impossible to get anything on screen...

comodo apparently breaks the screen on these laptops, mine did the same thing. I don't have a micro HDMI cable so I don't know what to do :\

only thing I can think of is to reformat the drive somehow and reinstall windows 8 or something.. I have no idea.

Anyway, I just got a yoga 2 pro today, and of course I decided to install comodo firewall, I usually use it on my PC.

Well, windows 8 hung, restarted and no screen anymore. I found a similar poster with the same issue. (on the wrong forum) I don't have a micro hdmi cable but windows 8 seems to be booting because the windows button on the screen vibrates when I touch it.

Fans turn on, keyboard lights up when I want it, etc. Seems to be working, but with no screen.

I guess I'll get a micro HDMI cable and see if I can do anything to fix it, but this is really annoying for such an expensive laptop.

If anyone has any suggestions I'd be grateful.

(tried the nova button, it does nothing. Or maybe it does and I can't see it. )

I wouldn't have bought it if I would've known installing software breaks it.

Just about the worst laptop I've ever had. Install comodo = death? :smileymad: Lasted less than a day. Now it's dead.

I will never ever ever buy another IBM/Lenovo laptop again.

I very much doubt that a program killed your laptop. Just return it and get a new one, there was something wrong with your laptop from the beggining. It sucks that you got a crappy unit, but it happens.

You are really doing yourself a disservice if a single bad experience makes you write off a company forever. I think I would be left without companies to purchase from if I reacted that way.......

There is me and one other person that have had this happen to their Y2P laptops with Comodo. Comodo also apparently has a history of messing with Lenovo/Thinkpad laptops in one way or another but not necessarily bricking them.

I just find it suspicious that there are 2 people with this issue. If you're sure why don't you install Comodo Firewall on your Y2P and report back. Then I won't be so upset and I will realize it was just a bad unit. Which I will have to RMA to Lenovo, and not have a laptop in time for college.

I do not generally have issues with hardware I buy but I buy used/refurbished most of the time which I guess seems to "protect" me from ever having DOA units.

It is not possible for comodo to brick a computer. At most it would mess with your OS and you'd have to reformat it, but brick it? no.

it's not bricked. the screen doesn't turn on. It seems like windows 8 is booting. So I guess I used the wrong terminology. It happened right after installing comodo and a hard windows 8 shutdown.
