Re: New Yoga 2 Pro - Impossible to turn screen on, please help

2013-12-18, 3:46 AM

I got a new one from bestbuy, (exchange) so I didn't end up RMAing this, I just won't ever touch comodo and hopefully it'll be ok. Hopefully Lenovo responds and updates the bios or something to fix this, because it does worry me that some other program might break the laptop.

I did disable Lenovo Fastboot & quickboot in win8, don't know if it'll make a difference. (not going to be a guinea pig and try installing comodo again, lol) When I dual boot I'll be using a different bootloader so that actually might "fix" the problem of it "breaking" with a comodo install. (which means secureboot is also disabled, and I'll turn off UEFI and go with legacy bios)

I'm sure it's somehow related to all this new stuff they have in these laptops, I'm not all that familiar with it myself yet since this is my first win 8 computer and I haven't built any PCs lately. (Still running an AMD 1055T in my tower)

I'm glad that I wasn't being crazy though blaming comodo for it, since some people on here seemed to think it was impossible.

I have the exact same problem. Brand new Yoga 2 Pro, installed Comodo and the screen won't turn on. I was wondering, could anyone post the correct key-combination for running factory reset from onekey recovery, starting from pressing the Novo-key. I imagine that might just fix the issue.

I can report the identical problem on my new Y2P - the error you mentioned was "DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION". I had this problem occur directly after uninstalling Comodo.
There seems to be no way of booting the machine - bios is not responding.
Does anybody know what can be done or must the unit be returned for "repair". I'm concerned that this fault will occurr again if I restore my backup (with Comodo).
Does Lenovo respond to any of these threads? If yes, some advice would be appreciated.

An, you just jogged mymemory. It happened to me after uninstalling Comodo too - not straight after installing it. I think tha I uninstalled it because it clearly wasn't happy with Comodo being there.

I decided to RMA mine as I would have ended up waiting month for more stock (UK). Also, there's some argument for an RMAd machine being more thoroughly tested thus being less likely to fail in some other way than a new one.

In your case, I think the machine will have to be returned. Mine came on at one point - screen and all - and I managed to log in. Then the keyboard stopped functioning but I used the screen to factory reset the machine. It got to the "restarting" screen but never any further. Then back to square one.

I called up Lenovo on the 22nd and someone collected it the next day. It's being sent to Germany for repair.

I think that Lenovo do respond to threads when there is enough traffic. A bit of reassurance from them about this and the potential for further software conflicts would be greatly appreciated!

jpa00 requested a key combo so if you or anyone else could help him out, that'd be great.

I seriously doubt it's just the screen though as at one point my screen came back on and the keyboard stopped functioning. On top of that, at some points the machine wouldn't power on at all.

Another new Yoga Pro 2 user in Canada with a dark screen - due to Comodo Internet Security 2013 suite install.

I too would love to hear from Microsoft or Lenovo re getting this fixed - even just being able to boot the PC normally.

Apparently I'll get a full breakdown of the repair and why it was required.
I'll keep the board posted. Pun intended.

IDEA !! - has anyone every taken the SSD out of one of these units?  I have a second Yoga Pro (my wife) and I can clone one SSD to a second one - IF the problem is only on the SSD - I could re-image it back to facory.  Does the SSD come out easily?  Is it eSATA connector?

Not too hard, but it's an mSATA.

Here's a teardown: http://youtu.be/GtZH_dbc_4c?t=17m57s
