Re: New Yoga 2 Pro - Impossible to turn screen on, please help

I think it voids the warranty if you pop it open that's why I was going to send mine in for repair instead of taking out the msata drive. The exchange was easier but I'm guessing that's not an option for you.

Plus, we really don't know what's going on here if the bios is effected in some way then taking out the sata and reinstalling windows might not work.

      • Make sure the computer is turned off
      • Press the OKR Button
      • Wait minutes
      • Press the down key once (this will select "Bios Setup")
      • Press Enter (to enter Bios)
      • Press the right key times (this will take you to the "boot" options)
      • Press the down key once (this will highlight the "Lenovo Fast Boot")
      • Press the enter key (to select "Lenovo's Fast Boot")
      • Press the up key once (this will highlight "disable")
      • Press enter (this will disable Lenovo's Fast Boot)
      • Now press the FN + F10 keys (this will prompt "save and exit")
      • Press Enter (to save the Bios settings and reboot

Hope this helps.

Yup - figured out the micro vs mini SATA form factor - thanks.  I have service manual - should be easy to remove back and pull SSD - one screw.  The SATA adapter box is on order with Amazon....have to wait 2 days for it to arrive.  Will clone a good drive to it and see if it boots.  Will post results Friday

I can also confirm that the BIOS key sequence did not solve the problem however thanks for the post. I do not think that the problem is with the screen - I think that the machine is not booting at all. The reasons are that the caps lock key light does not work & there is no sounds. Loocking forward to see if a SSD reformat helps however I would be surprised if this halts the boot. Have you tried booting your machine without the SSD? Hopefully if you get it to boot without the SSD you can then disable quick boot (I would try this myself however am on vacation and have no tools).

I have some good news .....pulling the battery connector off the motherboard (page 35 in the HW repair manual) will allow the system to re-start using the NOVO button (to rear of main power button) and then you can perform a SYSTEM RESTORE to the factory image.  I am now at 25% of the system restore progress and it seems to be working correctly.  The only tool you will need (aside from courage and patience) is a tiny Torx driver of size CR-VT5 (at least that is what is written on the side of mine).   Once I have disabled the ELAM protection on the Yoga, I will install Comodo IPS again and see what happens.

Hmm.. Well let us know what happens after you disable secure boot and install comodo. Though I didn't think comodo had a problem with ELAM/Secure boot.

I'm guessing since you had to unplug the battery something was stored in the ram?

More progress....spoke with Tier 2 tech at Comodo just now.  He admitted that this type of issue is currently a "Known Problem - being worked on now" at Comodo.....and that the cause is NOT the Firewall or AV program - it is GEEK BUDDY or DRAGON (or both - could not understand him very well).  He claims that it is possible to access and ADVANCED INSTALL menu at install of the suite (I have not tried this yet)....and de-select the add-ins like GEEK BUDDY and only install the main program.   He claims this works OK.   I will try it now.

@IrvingWashingto

Great work. Thanks for keeping us posted.

I'd be surprised re: GEEK BUDDY as I'm pretty sure I installed the main program only. I normally always go advanced and try to minimise unnecessary bloatware. Maybe I missed that one.

Good news re: the battery connector, however. It's too late for me but hopefully it'll help others out.
