Re: Physical lock for Yoga Ultrabook.

Closing the laptop when the lock’s clip is sticking out is like pressing the screen on a sharp piece of metal, though.

Re: Physical lock for Yoga Ultrabook.

I am very unhappy to hear that …

I've used the lock for serval weeks and it was all right (fortunately)

But I have never closed the Y2P when the clip is still in …

I guess a soft material could be wrapped around the clip to prevent that ... but well.

Sad there is no Kingston lock for Y2P. Even my My Book external hdd has one lol.

ibprobj: can you make a photo of the crack?

Our Y2P is at Lenovo Service Center for repair, and we didn't take a photo before we sent it. The crack started near the left hinge where the clip was installed and radiated toward the top right corner. Very sad case!

Lenovo charges $399 for the repair, but you have to ship it to their service center, which costs over $25 via USPS due to insurance. A Lenovo-designated repair shop in our town told me that they would charge around $750 for the repair, with the LCD screen alone costing $650.

ibprobj: So sorry this happened to your daughter's laptop, and that my positive review may have helped you make your decision to buy this lock.  There are no other options for locking up your Y2P that I could find. VERY disappointed in Lenovo for not providing a safe way to secure this machine -- there is plenty of room on the laptop chassis. It was marketed to us as a "going off to school/college" laptop where it is common knowlege that you LOCK YOUR VALUEABLES.

The college experience has been expensive (!!).  Another expense would really suck.

For us, so far we have not had any problems with the lock.  We do not insert the metal strip above the hinge. I can see how that would be a problem.  We insert the metal strip to the right of the hinge and it has worked very nicely.  I imagine we could not notice if the metal strip slid out a bit towards the keyboard and closing the lid might be a problem. If anyone else can find a better option please post here.

Thanks.

xwayne (Paper Tape). Thank you for your nice message. We all meant to help one another, but I think that the manufacturer and any seller of the lock should include warnings on their websites about the risk rather than market the product as a "universal" lock. Lenovo should also find a way to protect their customers, as you said.

That is why I made the yoga lock. When activated, it will sound an alarm, take a picture of the person who triggered the alarm (and emails it to you) and more. It is triggered by unplugging your computer, removing a USB drive, attempting to shutdown the computer, moving the mouse...

Essentially, this turned the power cable into a lock.

Yoga 900 lock slot

2015-12-30, 23:18 PM

Hello,

Is there a way to lock the Yoga 900 to a desk, for example? Since it does not have a Kensington slot, a traditional lock would not work. Any suggestions on how I can lock the computer? Support suggested using the following products, but I'm not sure if they will fit the hinge on the Yoga 900:

Re: Yoga 900 lock slot

That is a good question. Thanks for posting. I've been wondering about that myself.  I've used a Kensington cable lock for years on my ThinkPads, but haven't been able to with my Yogas. As I sit at my 900, I'm trying to visualize how those would work. Since I'm not a hardware person, I'll ask around, and will post back if I have any info to add. In the meantime perhaps someone who has a lock that fits will reply to help us out here.
