Poor WiFi performance of Yoga 2 11?

2014-02-24, 4:59 AM

I have just purchased a Yoga 2 11 and find that connectivity is poor (zero to two bars) and unreliable (occasionally reverting to a yellow exclamation point)  in my favorite thinking chair. I get reasonable performance at the same location from other machines including a T420, a Nexus 7, and an IPad. After reviewing some community forum fixes for the presumably Yoga 2 Pro, I have checked to ensure that I have the most recent driver; that I have turned off bluetooth; that I am not using protected sharing; that windows is not managing the wifi Plus I have installed on the order of 33 windows updates (a pretty large number considering this is right out of the box on the first day of availability!). Am I missing anything or is this a problem related to something unfixable like the antenna design? Other potentially connected diagnostic information is that some sites e.g. zillo do not load quickly behave very smoothly, even in locations with more than one "bar" of wifi connectivity. Thank in advance for any input.

I see the same poor wifi connection when comparing to my old laptop and to my Galaxy S4.  I updated the driver but it did not help (think it was the same one).  I have a week left for no hassle returns and if this cannot get resolved I think this unit has to go back.

Welcome to the family.

The Yoga 2 Pro also has the same wifi chip and this issue has been disscussed extensively throughout 85 pages

In short, you are out of luck and must wait for a fix.

Please don't think you can have your cake and eat it too. You bought the Yoga for the screen flexibility. Everything else is secondary and considered an added bonus. You should be lucky to even get these bonuses. Or at least that is what I think their mentality is, lol.

I assume that the Yoga 2 11 has the same USB-based wifi card as the Yoga 11s?

I am getting 6 MB/s on my Yoga 2 Pro without connection issues. About the same as my ThinkPad W530, I am using the latest BIOS version and drivers. My WLAN card is the Intel Dual Band Wireless-N 7260.

I believe 'lead_org' recommended to disable 'HT Mode' as a workaround here

Kind regards,

If it a brand new laptop send it back and exchange it until you ffet one that works. DOn't wait around or hope for a fix.

Seems there are a large group of people having WiFi issues with the yoga line, but not everyone. I never had issues with my Yoga (Yoga 2 Pro). Everyone with persistant issues should just retrun it for a new one until they get one that works properly. That might motivate them to make sure they get to the buttom of the issue.

I would imagine YES, but not sure what form factor the that model uses. Either the Mini PCI Express or the M.2 (NGFF), eitherway you should be able too.

I bought a Lenovo Yoga 2 11" last week. When I setup the Wifi connection, it connected to my WiFi OK. But after a few minutes, it went to "limited connection" and was not usable reliably anymore : I could not even ping the external world. From time to time, it worked back ok. But 90% of the time, it went to "Limited" Wifi connection. I made all the update, disabled Bluetooth, reinstalled the WiFi and Bluetooth drivers, changed a few settings : none of these tests fixed the Wifi issue for good. During these operations, I also setup a Lenovo S510P labtop using the same Wifi network and I had no problem. So I guess the Yoga serie has an issue with its Wifi hardware. Finally, I brought back the Yoga to the vendor and asked for reimbursement.

Re: Poor WiFi performance of Yoga 2 11?

I see a lot of discussion on the 2 13 and 2 Pro but not much on the 2 11.  Having issues with wifi dropping to around 2mb speeds only if my bluetooth mouse is connected... assuming it will do that if anything bluetooth is.  Is there any work around for the 2 11?  Has a Broadcom card so I am assuming can't replace with the Intel card that is recommended for the 13.  Of course have tried new drivers, etc... or as new as I can find but with no success.

Any ideas out there for the 2 11 or am I out of luck... or should I take it back and get a 13 and swap the cards??  Don't really want to spend an extra $400+ to do that though so If anyone has another solution that would be great.
