Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4A Wireless Network adapter Yoga 710-11IKB

2020-09-22, 16:49 PM

I frequently have my Wifi stop working. The computer cannot connect to the wifi network. Broadly speaking, this happens when the computer goes to sleep overnight -- but it also happens other times.

For a while, the built in Windows troubleshooter would fix it automatically, but for the past few months, the only way to fix it is to reboot the computer.

The troubleshooter gives the following error message:

"The Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4A Wireless Network Adapter adapter is experiencing driver- or hardware-related problems"

(yes, the word adapter is listed twice in a row)

The troubleshooter says "Not fixed" and gives up. Rebooting temporarily solves the issue.

All drivers and BIOS have been updated using Lenovo System Update. This is a Yoga 710-11IKB Laptop (ideapad) - Type 80V6.

What is going on, and how do I fix it?

Welcome to the Community

There are a couple of approaches. One is to swap the Qualcomm for an Intel or, better yet, an external adapter. I've done both to my 910. The external, with an extension cable is my preferred as you can place it anywhere, whereas with the internal, you're stuck with the 710's antenna location. My external outperforms either one of the internal cards for distances greater than 10 yards on 5Ghz.

For the other approach, see this post for some suggestions.

Thank you. If I would do the former, and I don't feel knowledgeable enough to do it myself, would I need to use an approved Lenovo Service Provider? If so, is this where I find one? https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht104448
