I realized that my replacement order would not ship until mid-Jan and have thus cancelled everything. It doesn't sound too promising anyways.
I rely upon solid colors a lot in my work -- powerpoint presentation, look up tables for fluorescence microscopy, etc. It'd really be very inconvenient if what I see on the Y2P is going to be very different from other screens.
Besides the yellow issue, I also noticed that black texts are indeed super crisp however texts in some other colors may have some more jagged edge. I've adjusted Cleartype text many many times however the result is the same. I suppose the RGBW layout isn't quite there yet.
My first color monitor was a NEC Multisync CRT in late 80's, and I had not seen yellow being rendered like this. I wish Lenovo had chosen a less ambitious and more time tested panel. For example, the QHD panels used in Toshiba Kirabook or the new HP Spectra 13 (very cheap with discount codes, also with a huge touchpad comparable to MBP, BTW). The fact that Yoga 2 Pro offers such a great price/performance ratio and Samsung is now heavily discounting the once unthinkable Ativbook 9 plus (with the same yellow color issues), maybe Samsung is trying to move on to the next generation of these panels.
I went with Y2P mainly for its portability and the QHD screen, which allows me to read textbooks and papers a lot easier. I think I'm getting a Samsung Galaxy Note 2014 for reading/studying and keep using my 2009 MBP for other purposes.
I don't buy that all products are expected to have "defects". Design compromises, yes, which you'd know before you buy an item (you knew, for example, MBP can't bend like Y2P). However I consider the yellow issue to be more than that, and lead to my return of the unit, which is rather unfortunate.
