Re: Yoga 2 Pro Wifi Problems

Day 3 Update

After forcing the WiFi card to use single channel "b" I've not had a single drop out or connectivity issue.

So upgrading the WiFI card will not work, as it all boils down to poor design and shielding of the antenna and cabling.

You guys will just need to go to advanced settings and select single channel operation.

As some one else on here said earlier this should be CE certified in Europe and Federal emissions tested in the US, which unfortunately only applies to hazardous transmissions not usage. The machine is broken simple as that, and updated drivers will not alleviate this unless they are written specifically for the Yoga 2 Pro with single channel operation.

So folks you have one choice.....settle for one channel, that of your router b or g or send it back and get your money back. And then .......

Are the people with wifi problems using USB 3.0 devices plugged into the laptop's USB 3.0 port or located near the laptop?  And also using the 2.4GHz wireless band?  Just wondering, because I have yet to experience any wireless issues at all, and I've not switched my WiFi card to the AC version for lack of necessity.

I did the 7260 Dual-Band AC upgrade as detailed in the "Plan B" YouTube tutorial (a few pages back in this thread).  I am still experiencing just as many drops as before, maybe more.

I am using the latest Intel driver (17.0.0.34).

Did you buy an AC router? 7260 is perfect for AC. It's not as good as other WiFi cards at 2.4 GHz which is exactly why I switched to ASUS PCE-AC56 802.11ac! Perfect WiFi on BOTH 2.4 and 5 GHz bands! Too bad there's no NGFF M.2 version of the ASUS. Don't get me wrong that 7260AC sucks, but it only sucks at 2.4 GHz. It's perfect at 5 GHz N protocol and especially AC protocol.

/groan/  I didn't think it was possible, but the latest drivers (17.0.0.34) have made the situation worse.  I now experience "No networks found" with the standard wifi card in Y2P.

I actually put in an order for Plan B (ac wifi card).  sounds like that might not work either though...come on...

Got mine a few weeks ago. Zero problems. I've only been connecting to home, school, and maybe 1-2 starbucks networks.

Well, I didn't think it could get worse but the Y2Problem does it again...

Having fixed the WiFi dropping out before it now seems to be dropping the bandwidth to unusable levels, signal strength continues bouncing around but the router and laptop are always in the same spots.  While connected at the same time to the same WiFi router my cheap £200 ASUS is rocketing along (6 years old and has never missed a beat, even spending 6 months on the back of a motorbike on dirty and sandy routes).

An online speed test from both laptops confirms a difference between the two of night and day…

Has anyone had their Y2Pro  blem returned to Lenovo for repair yet?  If so did they fix the problem/s?

I'm slowly loosing the will to live, to live with Y2Problem (4th problem now)

Swap to AC 7260 and connect to 5 GHz band only.

@cbautis2 (thanks for your help!), maybe I'm not loking in the right place via Device Manager but how do you connect to 5 GHz band?

Only options I see in 7260 is 20 MHz or Auto, see image below

You would need to get a different wireless adapter.

It all sounds a lot like people have strong interference at the 2.4GHz band (due to USB 3.0 devices and perhaps other sources), so the move to 5GHz band helps with stability, because it's a more "clean" channel from common interference.  For those of us without noticeable interference, our connections are stable.  I've had my Y2P for 2 months now, and I've dropped a wireless connection on my laptop at 2.4GHz (stock adapter)  just once so far (using my laptop daily).

That's correct. For us who live in apartment complex with only 5 inch wall in between neighbors with tens of microwaves, over 30 routers in range crowding the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz is the only solution in order to stream internet videos and internet radio reliably. 2.4 Ghz works but it's not good for streaming internet radio and videos at those environments.
